DeMint up in SC, Huckabee otherwise
PPP ^ | 2/1/11 | staff

Posted on 02/01/2011 10:33:32 AM PST by pissant

Jim DeMint would lead in the Republican primary for President in South Carolina if he decided to run, although GOP voters in the state seem a little bit ambivalent about a potential candidacy despite his popularity. If DeMint doesn't run Mike Huckabee is the favorite, continuing the momentum he's shown in PPP polling across the country so far in 2011.

DeMint is certainly well liked with the Republican base in his home state, sporting a 77/12 approval breakdown. But they're closely divided on whether he should go for the White House or not, with 40% of GOP voters expressing support for such a move but 37% opposed and 23% not offering an opinion. Because of that tepidness toward him running for President he just narrowly leads the primary in the state. 24% of voters say DeMint would be their top choice, followed by 20% for Huckabee, 17% for Mitt Romney, 12% for Sarah Palin, 10% for Newt Gingrich, 4% for Ron Paul, 3% for Tim Pawlenty, and 2% for Mitch Daniels. DeMint wouldn't be able to count on a blowout victory on the home front.

If you take DeMint out of the equation Huckabee is the biggest beneficiary. He would lead the state with 26% to 20% for Romney, 18% for Palin, 13% for Gingrich, 7% for Paul, 4% for Pawlenty, and 3% for Daniels.

Run Jim Run.

Bad news for Palin. Getting beat by Huck and Mitt. BUt she is in 2nd place from those who think the Party is too conservative.

I think that we need a guy like Paul Ryan to run and he would be best advised to wait until January of 2012 because the field is so clogged right now. I wish Sarah Palin would come out and say no thanks and go on to be the new Oprah for all conservatives...she would help the conservative issue without splitting the vote, which is what I fear she would do if she chose to run.

I like Ryan. He’s and up and comer. He’s too young and needs a bit of a spine stiffening. He yelped loudly about the evils of TARP until Pelosi and Bush twisted his arm and he folded like a wet noodle.

I think DeMint is happy where he is in the Senate despite all the rumors (which generally are simply ego stroking for all politicians). Of course, that means that the GOP has really, really, really bad news—Nanny Huckabee up in both Iowa and South Carolina. If we come out of those three states with a Huckabee vs. Romney contest, I’m tuning out and will write in Ronald Reagan on my ballot on election day.

Pissant, the poll and media propaganda watcher. LOL! Nothing conservative about that!

There is nothing too bad for Sarah; other than what the media made you believe. Imagine that - the libs have control over you! Huck is conservative - LOL!!

Huck is now out trying to beef up his foreign policy bona fides - the ninny is definitely interested in running. And to have any chance at all he'll need to knock the most conservative candidates out first.

I don't think my blood pressure will be able to take it.

You might think Huck is a conservative, I don’t. I consider him on the same level with Palin.

PPP is a democrat polling group. It is far from accurate.

Except when it has Palin leading, I reckon.

I don’t trust Huckabee or Newt Gingrich. They have both proven themselves to be too self-interested and willing to compromise conservative beliefs for personal advancement.

Huckster provides Bible boob bait for Bubbas. He caters to the lowest common denominator among social conservatives by interjecting “God” enough to dupe 20% or so of GOP primary voters.

Doesn’t matter to these dupes that Huckster is not a conservative as long as he pretends to the pro-religion candidate.

The funny thing is, RINO Romney is the flip side of the same coin. He and Huckster have a lot in common for how they’d nanny state the country...but Romney has to run away from his religion to dupe the voters.

Good post....

I’m not advocating anything here...merely predicting. My state’s primary is usually meaningless, as the nominee is already anointed thanks to the early states. But: I think most likely Huckabee is the nominee. I think Palin stays put and continues doing what she loves, and is truly beneficial.

And I think in the general, Huckabee narrowly (and I mean very narrowly) wins.

Yep...that’s my prediction at this time.

President Huckabee.

Huck is more conservative than Romney. That ain’t saying much. Jim Jeffords would have given Mitt a run for his money as gubner.

Here’s the deal you urine stained insect.

Huckabee is NOT running. A VAST majority of his support will naturally go to Governor Palin...possibly as high as 70% or 80% as they both appeal to evangelical voters, which is Huckabee’s base.

In any poll that includes Huckabe, you can add most of his support to governor Palin’s.

Of course the media isn’t ever going to do this...but people with the ability to think for themselves can see it clearly.

That’s why Pence isn’t running and DeMint isn’t running and Romney isn’t going to Iowa or South Carolina. This thing is already almost over before it starts, barring some unexpected development.

Sorry to have to break the news to you. Oh, I forgot to mention, Herman Cain will still garner about 1% of the vote...so there you go.

The thing that really p*sses me off about Huck, besides his faux conservatism and 'aw shucks' shtick, is he'll happily do the leftist media's heavy lifting by knocking the most conservative candidates first. He'll try to work his way to the center from there.

He doesn't have a snowballs chance in h*ll of winning the primaries let alone the general, but he'll likely knock some good candidates out before they have a chance to gain traction.

DeMint/Bachmann 2012. Forget the RINOS.
