I am answering your Boehner post on this thread because (1) the other thread is dead, and (2) I spoke to one of your main points on this thread, in my post 391.

To elaborate, no, decidedly no; I do not think the MSM could have smeared Boehner if he’d cited Abercrombie’s statement. Rather, if Boehner had referenced Neil’s remarks re: the BC issue—and if he had done so without showing fear [not sure that would have been possible for him] the MSM could not have laid a glove on him. That was exactly the beauty of the set up. When Obama’s close friend and fellow commie affirms that more info needs to be released, the MSM *cannot* blame Boehner for reinforcing that foregone conclusion. All it takes is a modicum of media savvy and a bare smidgen of courage.

It also requires a commitment to the integrity of the Constitution. Draw your own conclusions.

As for wanting a “fighter”; no, that’s not even close to the issue. It is not conservative pols who run around relentlessly shouting they’re going to ‘fight’ for us. It’s Dems, and they don’t mean they’re going to fight the terrorists, or fight to open more energy resources on our own soil. They mean they’re going to fight fellow Americans who call themselves conservatives.

When conservatives speak of ‘fighters’ - we prefer the term ‘warriors’ - we’re talking about the soldiers on the front lines in Afghanistan and similar situations. These are the heroes fighting impossible odds due to Rules of Engagement that ensure they cannot protect themselves. What has Boehner done about this, I wonder? [Would the MSM paint him as a kook if he moved quickly to stem the massacre of young American soldiers? Is that the problem?]

No, I don’t want a ‘fighter’. I just want a Speaker who is smart enough and conservative enough to take advantage of the unique gift Ambercrombie delivered on a gigantic silver platter. As mentioned above, it only requires two things: a teensy weensy bit of savvy, and a rare, selfless moment when a pint-sized dash of courage overcomes the omnipresent political calculation long enough to let a man be a man, and speak up for the people who handed him his majority. It’s not too much to ask.

Thanks for the link you sent. I checked it out, but was unable to make the relevant connection. I wasn’t being purposefully dense; it just didn’t seem to bear on the issue at hand. I leave open the possibility that I somehow overlooked the significance altogether.

It’s true. The Speaker threw away a great, free, rare, opportunity.
