Alfred W. Evans letter to the Waco Tribune Herald....
Put me in charge of food stamps. Id get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Hos, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks to cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing Id do is get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, well test all recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke, or get tats and piercings, then get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a government job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you to do. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the common good.

Holding one Accountable for their actions. What a concept.
I also like this:
2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
In this case, an authoritarian concept. Overlaying socialism with authoritarianism is a concept to reject.

The homeless shelters Rescue Missions are private organizations. They won't turn away anyone, but once they're fed and clean (often with "new" clothes), if they won't participate in the Bible study, they're sent on their way.
Our local Rescue Mission has had a great success rate for getting folks clean, sober and productive.
That was my point about getting the government out of charity.
It’s been a long time since I read “Starship Trooper”, but if I remember correctly, it wasn’t mandatory military service—you only got the franchise to VOTE if you were a veteran. Not a bad idea, and in line with only allowing property owners to vote...so only those who are actually contributing are the ones getting a voice.
Exactly - it was mandatory, but if you didn’t show up all that happened was that you never became a citizen, which meant that you could never own property or vote. “And you never, ever got a second chance”.

I agree that there should be limits, but my point is that if they start controlling what some of the population can purchase, why not others of the population for specific things. Take, for instance, telling government workers that they cannot buy cigarettes because they receive money from the government for their wages. It’s easy to extrapolate from there. May seem to be a stretch to some, but they way this administration is going, its not too far fetched.
See #47.
How in the heck did you determine that from my “slippery slope comment”? I have hated Margaret Sanger from the first time I found out about her through a made for TV movie in the 70’s (I think). I am totally a right to life woman. I think your comment is for others on this thread.
I agree. that was one hell of a stretch, Bear

I guess you'll need to spell that one out in a little more detail.
Government forces birth control on part of the population (ones receiving welfare), then they force abortion and/or sterilization. Eventually (their thinking) what's good for one group should be good for the entire nation, so eventually, we have population control throughout the country. Maybe, instead of sterilization, any woman on welfare has her child taken away from her. If she truly loves her children, she'll get off welfare. We need to think of the father counterparts to welfare children, though. Maybe they should be forced to work and all income, except for meager housing, food, and transportation allowances should go to kids they produce--or maybe jail time.
This entire process denies freedoms that should be protected by the government, not enforced. I would agree with the concept that if you want to be on welfare, no more babies. That gives
Since you have only experienced Socialism and the redistribution of wealth from the receiving end we will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the common good (more rice and beans for your buddies). How do you like Socialism now?
