One wonders what sword of Damocles is hanging over Walmart’s head to get them to cave to this. I thought the libs despised Walmart.
Here’s another possibility: the feds have picked up terrorist chatter discussing a possible attack against big box retailers, and might have mentioned Wal-Mart specifically. No one wants to discuss the plot publicly, for fear it will make a bad Christmas shopping season even worse. So, as with the “justification” for the airport body scans and pat-downs, we get some sort of vague reasoning from the feds and (in this case) the retailer.
I’ve long wondered why the bad guys haven’t gone after retail targets during the holidays. The chain stores have decent security, but they’re not fully prepared for that sort of attack (and for that matter, neither are most local police departments). So once again, the public becomes the first line of defense, with the feds hoping that shoppers will report suspicious activity.
If my scenario is accurate, we’re already way behind the threat curve. One more reason to shop on-line.
