Obama Administration Looking into Criminal Charges Against WikiLeaks
Pundit Press ^ | 11/30/10 | Aurelius

For the past several months the controversial site WikiLeaks has been releasing sensitive data to the world. The documents the organization has leaked, according to analysts and the Obama Administration, puts the lives of Americans overseas and at home at risk. This data pertains to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, internal and conflicts abroad, as well as candid statements from the U.S. government about foreign leaders and situations.

This has been going on for months now and on Sunday, new documents began to be released. Now, all of a sudden, the Obama Administration has decided that it could be illegal. I suppose the Obama Administration is trying to tell the American people that they are "on top" of the situation:

"Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. said the Justice Department and Pentagon are conducting "an active, ongoing criminal investigation.'' Others familiar with the probe said the FBI is examining everyone who came into possession of the documents, including those who gave the materials to WikiLeaks and also the organization itself. No charges are imminent, the sources said, and it is unclear whether any will be brought."

How is this batch of leaks different than previous ones? No one is quite certain, but it is very possible that the Obama Administration is aware of documents that can hurt them either politically or criminally. Therefore, they are trying to stop and/or prosecute WikiLeaks before these documents are released.

Is the 0bama Administration trying to hide something? Or are they just this incompetent? Or both?

The United States government has no jurisdiction over Wikileaks. They do have jurisdiction over the little fudgepacker PFC Bradley Manning who released all the documents to Wikileaks in the first place. But of course the media isn’t interested in reporting on queers gone wild.

Actually Eric Holder would make a nice cellmate for Julian Assange.

Since they most likely facilitated the leaks it’s doubtful Holder will be working diligently on a prosecution of the leakers.

Criminal charges? Why not have the trial on one of those courtroom/soap opera afternoon television shows like “Judge Joe Brown”?

sarcasm/off You'd think they'd have learned something from the recent civilian criminal trial given a terrorist.

Gee, doncha think that the horse is already out of the barn? Besides, Holder has MUCH more important tasks:

* Squelching the Black-Panther scandal
* Punishing Arizona
* Getting the World Cup Soccer Event

Seriously, this whole "Looking into Criminal Charges" is a dog-and-pony show. They're not going to do anything. Look up the word "feckless" in the dictionary: you'll see both Holder & Obama's ugly mugs.

LOL. Criminal charges for engaging in freedom of the press? That’s a real knee-slapper. Where are the criminal charges against the Washington Post, the New York Times, and almost every other major media outlet that does the same thing?

I suggest Double Secret Probation is more likely.

(You know, I couldn't care less if the WikiLeaks idiot accidentally caught a bullet, but why isn't there more ire at the idiot(s) that leaked this stuff in the first place. And yes, I doubt the little puke already mentioned is the only leaker.)

What about the true culprits? (Those who leaked to wikileaks)

There’s a lot of misdirection going on here.

Leon Panetta:..

You, sir, have the obligation to take Julian Assange out and to destroy the wikileaks website.

Don't ask president zer0, nor the racist Holder....

...just do it!

If they had such a tip, the US ballistic missile fleet would be receiving ELF flash traffic targeting Wiki headquarters.

I know this has become a redundant statement but - can you just imagine what the impact of this release of classified information would have had on a Republican administration this deep into their first term? Not only would the President be taking this more seriously, his AG would certainly not be out lobbying to get the World Cup to the US.

And - the media outcry with calls for assorted resignations, including the President himself? Forget about it. Although the story is certainly getting airplay - the context is wholly different than it otherwise would be under a Republican President.

We have the cyber-technology to shut down Iran but do nothing to take down a simple web site that the government claims is a threat to national security.

I can only conclude they don’t mean it when they say this is serious.

On one hand they shake their fists in apparent anger at this attack on us. On the other hand they say they are “looking into” whether it’s something they should deal with. This is beyond parody.

Holder held a press conference to brag about taking down web sites selling bootlegged goods. Phony Coach purses are more of a threat then Wikileaks I guess.

Political posturing. They could have stopped this before it happened, if they really wanted to.
