No problem, I figured that you just missed something.
As for the recording being illegal, well maybe, it would depend on state laws.
In my state it is legal to video anyone in public. Recording their voice is more restricted, although there are some exceptions. I can legally record your voice if you give me permission or if you know I am recording you. If you can see that I am going to record you, you can shut up, but I am not required to shut my recorder off. Additionally, and more to the point of this event, I can record you during an assault or threat of assault or other violent act.
I haven’t read the laws on this for several years, so it is possible that they have changed.... but I doubt it.
