His name is Jonathon Pollard. He was a Jew born in America and became a citizen of Israel in 1995. He worked for several intelligence agencies in the U.S. and passed on classified information to Israel and others. According to Wikipedia the information he passed on was about Arab countries hostile to Israel.
Wikipedia’s version, and I suppose it is true, makes our government intelligence agencies seem like the Keystone Kops. He was supposed to have been fired several times and wasn’t. His security clearance was supposed to be cancelled but wasn’t, etc.
It was/is a strange case.
