Your top shot is a SRB bound for orbit. A lower trajectory and about 45 more seconds would match the mystery shot off Catalina. The other is obviously a jet. Notice the puffs on the SRB. That is exhaust. Not contrail.
SRBs don't puff. They burn constantly. Perhaps you are thinking about ram-jets.
