English majors trying to change the world. If they would just read the Complete Works of William Shakespeare, they would accomplish something. They probably read Cliff Notes and comic books instead.

Jim Bunning wouldn’t talk to the C/J. That’s the only way for a Republican to deal with them. Gov Rick Perry of Texas refuses to talk to any newspaper. The time for newspapers to sway elections are over.

Most of the smaller papers around here stick a finger in the air to see test the prevailing winds as to whether a candidate is likely to get trounced at the voting booths before making their endorsement. It’s become rare to see an endorsement for someone who’s almost certain to be defeated.

And the best part, the big papers have now become smaller papers, and they too are now tending to play it safe, tending to endorse winners rather than the “progressive” candidates that they normally would prefer.
