Glenn Beck is no stranger to public criticism. Usually, that criticism comes from entrenched critics. But today, Beck was chided by some of his most loyal fans. Whats got everyone so upset?
Becks stance on playing dress-up.
Recently, Beck started imploring Tea Party supporters to lose the costumes, and homemade signs, so as not to give detractors ammunition. ( ... )
He repeated the charge on this mornings radio show, taking umbrage with one costume in particular: Whats more effective, you as Betsy Ross or you as somebody who looks just like their neighbor, not dressed as Betsy Ross?
( ... )
Im not saying you cant go dressed as Betsy Ross or the Statue of Liberty that would be a totalitarian state
[But] if you want to truly make a difference, it is now time that the Tea Party takes the next step.
And first impressions make all the difference.

I agree, time to move post the ‘protest’ and start treating this like a professional movement. I really don’t understand why people wear some of the costumes they do. This isn’t halloween and people should know how the media will use them against us.
No one is perfect. Oh well, he usually gets it right.
I agree with Beck.
We need to forgo the cheap satisfaction of the radical pose for the deep satisfaction of radical ends.
don’t entirely disagree on the costumes. There is a place for it, for sure, and I have enjoyed see it myself, but we are in a position to start winning over friends, neighbors and coworkers now, and Beck’s concept that perception will impact our ability to win over non-ideologues is not off base.
I totally disagree on the signs, though. Otherwise, we’re just standing around. What’s the point.
Rats. No more phrygian caps.
i heard beck too and his producer making fun of the statue of liberty costume... if people want to celebrate with costumes, i say shove it beck... it is a party... and if having fun while we’re kicking ass, then so be it...
original tea partiers were dressed as indians... live it love it... i like the costumes.
teeman
I agree, lose the costumes. The tea party protesters of old wore the attire of the day, so should today’s tea party protesters. The should dress seriously for a serious topic.
People are into that stuff ~ they wear Western Wear to country music concerts for gosh sakes.
We cut out peach colored material to make IM PEACH buttons to wear to the Freeper protest on the Mall!
I think Glenn is sometimes too stodgy, but I bet he has his own Bishop Fulton J. Sheen robes and sometimes practices his moves ~ to see if he can match the black and white retro replays on ETWN.
There's no good reason whatsoever for Republicans of any stripe to look like Fascist Pigs ~ leave that to the Democrats ~ they're doing a fine job of it.
I only listen to him when he gets all weepy and sincere.
I think I agree with Beck at this point...no point in being a chariacture ....especially if you want to be taken seriously.
What did he say that suggested the Tea Party act more like the establishment?
My favorite was: “Commodities Market” “Tar Up”, Feathers Up”
Beck is right, personally, Betsy Ross and Lady Liberty are turn on’s for this Freeper, but the AP tries to make us look like kooks. Beck is right, no costumes, no signs ...
Yes he’s right. He knows damn well that the MSM will take the most outrageous of costumes and make it seem as the Tea Partiers are a bunch of freaks. And they’ll be sure to have condescending language to describe these people.
So sure, go ahead and wear these outfits, but know that the MSM’s derision of same may very well the cost conservative cause some votes.
Like the signs. Costumes creep me out a little.
Coming from the man with the props. Pot meet kettle.
Dear Glenn, you are not the leader of the Tea Party or A leader of the Tea Party. So, lay off telling them what to do and don’t get too big for your britches.
I recall the original Tea Partiers dressed like indians.
Don’t get a fat head Glenn.
Glenn Beck has to be as thick skinned as he always has been in the past. He's developing the same sensitivities as too many of the Liberals.
I'm not saying he's wrong, just "Don't be embarrassed by us," Glenn. We're all patriots and don't have a microphone in our hands or a TV show to voice our displeasure.
