Is Beck Right or Wrong About Tea Party Outfits?
The Blaze ^ | 16 Sep | Seidl

Glenn Beck is no stranger to public criticism. Usually, that criticism comes from entrenched critics. But today, Beck was chided by some of his most loyal fans. What’s got everyone so upset?

Beck’s stance on playing dress-up.

Recently, Beck started imploring Tea Party supporters to lose the costumes, and homemade signs, so as not to give detractors ammunition. ( ... )

He repeated the charge on this morning’s radio show, taking umbrage with one costume in particular: “What’s more effective, you as Betsy Ross or you as somebody who looks just like their neighbor, not dressed as Betsy Ross?”

( ... )

“I‘m not saying you can’t go dressed as Betsy Ross or the Statue of Liberty –that would be a totalitarian state … [But] if you want to truly make a difference, it is now time that the Tea Party takes the next step. … And first impressions make all the difference.”

I understand the passion behind the costume and appreciate it. Just adds fuel to the fire for the opposition. If the media was fair, go for it. But it’s not.

Bingo.

Then why are you spending so much time complaining about someone you dont watch or listen to? You may not like it, but Beck is controlling your emotions right now, and you are reacting emotionally. You havent said anything on why the dress up strategy would work to make converts. Youve just been saying molon labe.

I have not told you how to behave, nor have I claimed to control your emotions. Those are your own fabrications.

“And how many of them dress up?

If there are 20k at a rally, how many would you say dress up? How many have signs?

The comment was that the people dressing up and having signs put Beck where he is, and I dont think there are anywhere near enough people in those two groups to have that kind of radio and television power.”

This is not going to work! those people are the ones who watch him and support him the Tea party.

so as not to give detractors ammunition.

Tell you what Mr Beck you don't carry signs or wear costumes. If we are kowtowing to 'detractors' we've already lost.

He is absolutely correct, we need to look like the adults in order to get the respect we need to make the doubters take notice and join the movement, kookieness is always a turnoff... plus when the kooks do show up in Nazi gear they would stand out like a sore thumb and would be shunned...

Time to get serious folks,

You are the one bring up emotions. Drop the subject and I will, otherwise admit you are wrong.

Oh I know Rick Santelli started the tea party movement. I was watching Fox that morning and was cheering what he ranted that we need a “tea party”. Went to my first Tea party in Orlando in March 2009 and then April 2009 and have been enjoying the “movement” ever since. I attended the national DC 9/12 2009 and 8/28 2010 but my heart is with those “crazy” patriots that carry big bold signs and wear crazy patriot garb. Love the heart of people who love America and realize that this great country is being snatched away. Who I am to tell free Americans how to share their passion for this country?

“MORAL, the MORAL OF THE TROOPS” (You mean “morale”...)

Exactly! And “Morans” instead of “Morons”....

People making signs like these, with quite egregious errors...they become the memes.

I’ll take one person who loves their country enough to celebrate by wearing a Statue of Liberty costume over a hundred people who are so scared of the left that they feel they have to wear a uniform of conservatism.

Have you ever read Orwell’s 1984? Is it time we all wear the same blue overalls? NO THANKS.

Seething anger doesn’t need costumes. Seething anger doesn’t give any warning to the enemy.

This movement will have to continue its anger for several more election cycles to clean out the swamp. The swamp lizards are going to win some, and they are going to sabotage the conservative candidates.

I've been doing since for over a decade. The costumes and signs are fun and they work. Being a stiff doesn't.

When we did the Get Out of Cheney's House protests we had thousands of newbies join us for weeks without incident or bad press. They had signs and some wore costumes. We had fun, made our point and got no bad press because we policed our own but didn't get all Glenn Beck on people.

Warning to American Patriots: You dont need a leader. You are a leader of yourself.

Exactly. And Beck is a patriot, great communicator, and even an organizer of sorts, but he has shown himself to have significant flaws in leadership.

For one thing, he has not adequately honored those from whose research and reporting he has brought himself great fame and fortune.

Beck gave Santelli full credit for starting the movement on the same show he discussed costumes. Fact is SOME of us are taking this movement very seriously and want it to be taken seriously... time to kill the stupid costumes and act like adults — that is if you want to win this country back because that is what it’s going to take, adults, we already have children — they are running DC right now.

So are you going to be the fashion police?
Who are you to tell me or any of my conservative friends what I have to wear? This is beyond ridiculous. It is scary the totalitarian undertones some people have on this subject.

The Republican Party is full of well dressed men and women... men wear suits - women too. Why does the tea party have to imitate that?

He should shut up? He’s done more to shine a light on the cockroach leftists in government than anyone else.

He took down Van Jones.

The liberals want to eat him alive. He has to have bodyguards.

You think he should shut up? Tell me, do you need security at YOUR house because you are so high profile that left-wingers want to kill you?

He can say whatever he wants to say.

I was not aware that Beck was the head spokesman for the Tea party. I thought he was just an alcoholic who was busy publicly living out his long, winding journey of self discovery. His whining, sobbing, and childish behavior are quickly becoming his most noticable characteristics. First he was the great radical patriot who them morphed into the sensible political tactician who then grew into the great educator that soon became the evangelist. The guy has had and impact, but he is not stable.
