I agree, but there are too many on the dole here who keep voting Democratic and can't figure out why their circumstances don't improve.

I found it and you can look up your own State's Laws: The Model State Emergency Health Powers Act (MSEHPA)

problem is when 'they' decided that ignoring it is grounds for 'punishment' by the boots in yer face...

these statutes need to be GONE...but once the wind stops blowing, everybody will forget about it, and go to cleaning up their yards...until next time...

You don’t think Perdue will rescind this do you? Not a chance!

She's allowed to declare a permanent state of emergency in NC?!?

What a blind, idiotic thing to do. What’s with this “Governor”?

Would you be complaining any less if she waited a day to declare the emergency?

Very true. Were I transporting my family to another location, I would want to be armed. There are some pretty dangerous animals out there, and they walk on two legs.

I knew I recalled it having happened before in the recent past. On Wednesday, February 10th, 2010, the city of King, North Carolina declaired a “state of emergency”.

http://www.ammoland.com/2010/02/10/gun-rights-suspended-again/

http://www.wxii12.com/news/22487153/detail.html

“By N.C. law, statute 14-288.7 automatically went into effect. And that law which goes into effect when there’s a state of emergency prohibits the transportation, purchase sale and possession of firearms other than on one’s own premises.”

[What if you run out of food or water? Do you stay at home and wait? If you go out to get such and there are thugs and looters accost you and steal your stuff do you go back home get more cash and try again?]

I assume you have never lived in an area threatened by hurricanes before. You are given plenty of notice to prepare. You clean your yard of ‘loose things’ and you board up your house.

You go to the store early and buy batteries and candles, jugs of water and all manner of non perishable foods to last a week or two. The stores run out of supplies.

You fill your bath-tubs with water for flushing and you fill pots and pans with additional water for washing. You have a butane stove handy for needed cooking.

BECAUSE during and after the hurricane there are NO stores open, there are NO gasoline stations open for many days, the power is out and people stay in their homes.

In all my years I have never seen a looter in south Texas hurricanes. Katrina was a sad example for our country. Mayor Nagin did not use school buses to carry out the poor people and obviously the city had many who were desperate after-wards.

I hesitate to say it, but it is true that that city had a large population of uneducated people who did little to help themselves beforehand. But, they had guns for the looting after-wards.

In most cities if there is not bad flooding you can travel to a hospital or shelter for help and there will be police out and about.

I could write a book on the horrors of evacuation but this is already too long. All I can say is board up and evacuate early, and yes I would take my gun along with me no matter what they say.

Your first mistake was ass-um-ing I have never been in a natural disaster, which unfortunatley I have.

Your second mistake was not reading the law which pertained to both emegencies and riots, both of which may or may not involve hurricanes.

If there is a disaster or riot I believe I should have the right to leave my property to go help those who may need help such as friends and relatives. Hurricanes do not always track exactly as prepared for and may turn and go from one area to the another. I’m a big boy and I think I can make up my own mind as to where I want to be when and emergency strikes, be it in my abode or that of someone else who may be better or less prepared than I am.

Again it is a “shotgun” law trying to curtail anyone from carrying weapons instead of coming down on those that use weapons to commit crimes. Its almost like a thought crime, carrying a weapon becomes illegal no matter your intent, the government doesn’t want you to be able to think and defend yourself, they want to do it even if they cant. Police just minutes away when seconds count.

Personally, and take it how you want, I totally think that the 2nd Amendment cannot be usurped by any state, or by any alleged “emergency”. The woman is an idiot if she did not get the memo.

This is called conditioning. Slowly everyone “gets used” to suspension of rights during “natural disasters”.. Kind of like the Patriot Act after 9/11.

Sorry I assumed you had never been in a natural disaster. Your post just sounded so frantic, “where can I get food”, etc.

I Posted the N. Carolina law pertaining to this at Post #149 It was used as recently as February 2010 in another North Carolina city.

“By N.C. law, statute 14-288.7 automatically went into effect. And that law which goes into effect when there’s a state of emergency prohibits the transportation, purchase sale and possession of firearms other than on one’s own premises.”

I doubt many will obey it, doubt they should and expecially those with CC permits. I stated that I would carry my gun with me no matter what.

We are talking about a Hurricane here, not a riot.
If you had ever been in an evacuation such as the ones out of the Galveston - Houston area, you would find that you are directed to ONE route and are not allowed to leave it to turn right or left even if your Mother lives two blocks away to the right! The streets and ramps are blocked off.

No, but because a State Of Emergency has been declared the North Carolina Citizenry will be spared the ignominy of all armed robberies and bank heists for the duration.

Best regards,

A Declared "State of Emergency" seems to have a way of being forgotten.

Think about Nixon under the War Powers Act and State of Emergency. He was able to suspend the U. S. Constitution. I think it was 1972. Has that been rescinded?

This type of leader will need to be shot out of office someday and then we can return to limited government and freedom.

The weather in Charlotte was fine all last week.

No excuse for this. Not only should the governor be impeached but should be criminally prosecuted.

Those who willingly and knowingly encroach on Constitutionally enumerated rights should be treated as enemies of the Constitution. Period.

Nice of you to ignore basic netiquette and not ping me.

BTW, if I was trolling, then you just admitted you chomped on the bait. Odd.

Someday you might try reading what you're yapping about and you might see deeper subtexts.

BTW, it turns out I was right, wasn't I? :-)
