Recently, the California Crash Tax has received national attention as Sacramento is one city on a growing list to potentially adopt a measure imposing fines on out-of-town drivers that wreck in their cities. The measure is supposed to increase revenue for local fire and rescue budgets that are strained from accidents resulting from careless visitors to popular tourist destinations.

How are they going to determine whether or not they are from "out of town"?
Are they going to demand to see their.....PAPERS!!!???
The measure is supposed to increase revenue for local fire and rescue Unions.
There. Fixed it.
Why not ruin your tourism industry? They’ve ruined all of the other industries......
there’s a crash tax here to after a fashion. If you get in a little fender bender, the polizei come and issue a ticket to whomever they think they can pin it on. $150 minimum. then of course there are the increased insurance rates that come with it - BUT! if you attend a state approved (and licensed) driving school, you can have those increased rates not take hold.
So they've already determined that all out-of-towners are careless, eh?
Screw Sackatomatoes. I'll just drive around that stupid city next time we head south. I'll just fill up in Stockton and have lunch there, too.
Let's see what does that does for your precious revenues you Sac of ......
doesn't that seem unconstitutional, discriminatory? what about equal protection?
Funny how treating someone differently that is here illegally is bad but this is OK?
Yeah, well, as a very wise person once said, "If it wsn't for double-standards, Liberals would have no standards at all."
Wait a minute. That wise person was me.
Shucks. Now you got me all blushing and whatnot.
Oh wait... this is just another reason to not visit California.
According to the article, Stockton already charges a fee to out of town drivers who cause an accident in that city.
Thank you for saving me the trouble of reading the rest of the article. I'll just mosey on down to Tracy or Patterson or some other burg along I-5.
Exactly...the unintended consequences of stupid policies.
