I like Cromwell because he overthrew King and Parliament: A man who could take just so much crap from the ruling establishment before he rebelled and destroyed it.
Cromwell is a perfect example of what's wrong with revolution. Our own revolution is an anomaly in history in that tyrants did not immediately rise from it.
No, Cromwell is your textbook example of a revolutionary. He overthrew the English monarchy, executed Charles I, then invaded Ireland, burned down churches where people were taking refuge, ordered all priests to be executed immediately upon capture, massacred civilians etc etc. The man is no one to look up to, and is especially hated in Ireland to this day.
