The sheikh did say, however, that Marbella represented an excellent opportunity for investment due to its tourism potential and because it is a name that is recognised the world over. In the brief 20 minute meeting, the sheikh was accompanied by his top executive Abdullah Ghubn, the CEO of NAS, Al-Thanis group of 15 firms; by the lawyer, Yasmin Al Sahoud; and by Taysir Al Sahoud, another of his advisors.

The National Police are investigating a robbery report in the Marbella home of the Qatari Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al-Thani, the new owner of Malaga FC.
The alleged robbery occured Monday night, only five days after the Sheikh arrived in Puerto Banus, Marbella. Stolen itmes included six computers, eight cell phones and a Hublot luxury gold watch encrusted with diamonds as well as a Louis Vuitton bag.
QATARI Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Thani, who recently purchased Malaga Football Club, wants to create a new Puerto Banus in Marbella. This, apparently, is the important investment which the Mayor of Marbella, Angeles Muñoz, announced recently during a meeting with the sheikh. The plan is to expand La Bajadilla Marina, with an investment of 70 million euros.
According to reports in the local press, the sheikh planned to buy Puerto Banus itself, but was unable to do so because the area cannot be expanded. He therefore focused his interest on other areas.Miguel Gomez, the President of the Tourist Initiative Centre in Marbella has said that other Arab investors have their sights set on Marbella and the Costa del Sol as they consider it a safe place to invest.

Michelle Obama in Marbella
August 5, 2010 3:00 pm Its Business as Usual as Marbella Graciously Receives Michelle Obama in the Citys Charming Old Town - Press release from Marbella town hall.
Michelle Obamas visit to the Costa del Sol may be brief, but her brief stay is having the Midas touch on the image and popularity of Marbella.
Following Mrs. Obamas smooth arrival at the Villa Padierna Hotel in an impressive cavalcade of some twenty specially imported Chevrolets and armoured cars, she and her daughter Sasha were able to relax, have lunch and spend some time with Ricardo Arranz and Alicia Villapadierna, the owners of the areas most opulent hotel, who presented her with a magnificent array of gifts, including a flamenco dress, a hand-painted fan, a set of books on Picasso and an award-winning engraving, compliments of the Marbella Town Hall.
As a private visit, the agenda of Mrs. Obama and her daughter during their stay is not available to the public, but Michelle and a large entourage surprised residents of Marbella by taking a relaxed stroll in the afternoon in the quaint cobbled streets of the Casco Antiguo, Marbellas historic Old Town.
Passersby and residents of the charming neighbourhood were delighted when Mrs. Obama window-shopped, browsed souvenirs and stopped to buy two white summer dresses for her daughter and herself. The shop assistant was charmed by Mrs. Obamas charismatic presence and natural charm. She was extremely charming, and told me how much she loved Marbella. After purchasing a few more items, Mrs. Obama and her party stopped to dine early at the Buenaventura restaurant close to the Plaza de La Encarnación.
Despite exhaustive security measures - an estimated 70 secret service agents and 250 national police officers are employed in the operation of keeping the First Lady of the USA safe -
The optimism that one witnesses on the streets, in the shops and the numerous bars, cafes and restaurants has recently been bolstered by the announcement that Abdullah Bin Nasser Al-Thani, the Qatari sheik who recently bought Mlaga football club, plans to invest a considerable amount of money in the town.
Details of this investment
are still sketchy, but a spokesman for the Mayors office has revealed that the project, related to the tourism and services industry, was in a very advanced stage and that it would benefit the local economy greatly.

Supposedly she opted for a private dinner instead of the charity gala.
Really? For real?
just making sure they can live in exile in Saudi land.
LOL. Oh yes, NOW, I see, said the blind woman.
This trip smelled fishy from day one. Her mother didn’t go and her mother always goes everywhere when there is a free trip. She went during the doofus’s birthday, she took one daughter with her, I could go on and on. This trip was a must for some very important reason. The question is, what is that reason?
We could hope that this is where they are planning to live when they are forced out of America for treason.
They have the names and exact amount of the offers on tape...Over a million...
DOn’t have time to find it right now but it’s here somewhere:

Oh my! Don’t miss HollyB’s most interesting posting.
State will deliver our official position, and will be told the Saudis' official position on whatever is the subject of the day. She can deliver and hear what can't be delivered officially.
What is said, delivered, received, may not be political strictly speaking. It may be very personal. Even to the degree that its political, its personal if she's the go-between.
Same thought entered my tired, little brain, too.
Two AM here...Not answering any phone calls...Gotta play for church tomorrow...Night and thanks for all you do.
There are US journalists accompanying the first lady.
Jackson Sr. and Jr. both have the middle name Louis.
I'm not sure that Michelle Robinson Obama is a blood relation of Noah Robinson.

It occurred to me that there is probably a bigger story, a deeper meaning, behind why this particular destination was selected.
Given that the Ground Zero Mosque project is the Cordoba project (Cordoba being a city in Spain with distinct historical significance in Muslim conquest), I was wondering what significance Marbella has to Muslims
In Roman times, the city was called Salduba (Salt City[1]).
During Islamic rule the Moors built a castle in this city.
Castle, mosque, or both?
The name Marbella, which is derived from Marbil-la, dates from this Islamic era
In 1485 the city fell to Christian forces
In 1974 Prince Fahd arrived at the city Until his death in 2005 he was a frequent and profitable guest at Marbella, where his retinue of over a thousand people spending petro-dollars was welcome, including the then-anonymous Osama bin Laden.
Remember when Barack bowed to the Saudi King? Well, this was his predecessor
Marbella Remember[s] King Fahd.
Fahd bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud. 1923 August 1, 2005. He was the king and prime minister of Saudi Arabia and leader of the House of Saud.
Everyone has a favourite Fahd story. Mine was that day he cast a glance eye over Marbellas Hotel Don Pepe. He sent a secretary to enquire how much would the owners want for the hotel. The answerable was politely told the hotel was not for sale.
The secretary replied: Everyone has a price when in comes to the king. But not that time. It was one of the very few occasions that Fahd was rejected. But his love affair with Marbella was not dimmed.
He told a local journalist that he liked the town because it is part of a land blessed by Allah, referring to the time when the area had been occupied by the Arabs from the 8th to the 13th century.
King Fahds Palace.
From the hotel Incosol just outside Marbella, Fahd directed the construction of his Marbella property, Mar Mar Palace, modelled on the White House
What significance do you think Muslims see in the Obamas visit to Marbella?
