If Education Secretary Arne Duncan has his way, kids would be spending a lot more time at school and a three-month summer would be a thing of the past.
Duncan joked with attendees at a luncheon at the National Press Club Tuesday in Washington that he would like schools to stay open 13 months out of the year. Then he told the audience of over 100 that he seriously supports longer school hours.
In all seriousness, I think schools should be open 12, 13, 14 hours a day, seven days a week, 11-12 months of the year, Duncan said. This is not just more of the same. There would be a whole variety of after-school programs. Obviously academics would be at the heart of that. But you top it off with dancing, art, drama, music, yearbook, robotics , activities for older siblings and parents, ESL classes.

This is just a scam to get more tax payer $$$ in the hands of the teachers and their unions. Spending more time in a classroom with incompetent teachers will not get you a better educated child.
It is much worse than that. Think about it, 12 hours a day 7 days a week. Children would almost never see their parents. No listening to the news during dinner with parental commentary. The only information kids will get is the information that Obama wants them to here. All interaction with other kids would be under the supervision of Obama's people. This isn't just another scam thought up by the teachers to get more money. This is turning our kids into Hitler youth.

sweat shops They're not interested in benefitting the students, but primarily funneling job security and more money through to like-minded teachers, school-policy-writing, curriculum-designing professors, community-organizer hotbeds for administrator pools, the teacher unions and biasing payments to their friends' "education-oriented" companies.

Your children are no longer your children. Can they get free bunks at the Mao re-education facility as well? Just keep in mind during the 20th century 100s of millions died at the Mao, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Po Pot .... re-education facility.
Abort the unborn, kill the old and withhold treatment from the sick. Whole lives in one sentence.
What have we become when they take all our humanity away.

Next Big Brother will be taking American children away from their parents so the NEA can raise and brainwash them to be obedient Liberals.BINGO! What does it take for people to see that government education is inherently Marxist to the core.

“If Education Secretary Arne Duncan has his way”
If I had my way, this @sshole would be tarred and feathered on a hot summer day.
Way too much of this crap going on from wing-nuts like these who think they know what’s best for our kids. A lot of kids already have 12 hours of school a day when you figure in homework. My kids had hours and hours of repetative nonsense every night. Glad those days are over, and I can sympathize with parents who have kids in school now.
When are the American people going to get “Their” way?
Can’t wait till November.
To: Nachum
Not my children!!! We school year round with many breaks throughout to accomodate daddy’s schedule but we are usually finished with our studies by noon.

If you ask your elementary aged children how they like Obama they will probably tell you:
“Everybody hates his guts”.
Why?
No vacation and longer school days.
4th graders have remarkably long and accurate memories for this kind of stuff.

Cancel shock mode, pal. There's a great program for kids called the First Lego League. It gives the kids challenges that they can solve using the Lego robotics platform. There are competitions all over the map in December and January, and the finalists compete for the world championship in April. FLL is worldwide, and it's designed to get kids interested in engineering, math, science, and problem-solving. It's a great AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM that was founded by Dean Kamen, the guy who invented the Segway and the heart stint. There's also a division for high schoolers, and there's big scholarships to be had in that.
That said, since the schools are continuously dealing with sub-standard students who don't know the basics (read: illegal alien kids), the schools have to slap extra time on the day to do those things they did in the past when they didn't have to worry about state testing. But a 12-hour day is insane. I know 4th graders whose brains turn to baloney after lunchtime! Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot we were talking about the Obama administration, where stupidity reigns supreme!

Bring your children at sunrise and report to the commune, comrades.
After work, return and join them. Fun and games for all into the evening.
No more empty idle time, families unnecessary- the government has planned programs to occupy your time

In Brave New World the children are raised by the state.
It is the standard of every dictatorship. Get the kids away from their parents and into government brainwashing as fast as possible. Older people look around and see how things have changed, there isn't much you can do about that but keep them scared. But kids don't know how things were unless their parents tell them.
How does a first grader know if you changed the words in the constitution. He's never seen it before. So when they teach him the "New" constitution he believes it is the only one there ever has been. By the time he is 21 and gets out of college he has been seeing that constitution for three quarters of his life. When you try to tell him its different he's going to look at you like some crazy old man cause he learned the "Real" constitution in school.
Look at the food the school lunch programs are serving. Lots of veggies and carbos. Limited protein. Can't serve beef or you offend Hindus, and can't serve pork as it offends Muslims. And you don't want to offend vegans with chicken or eggs. Now they have even banned peanut butter and jelly because or people with peanut allergies. Lack of protein in the diet causes a rapid reduction in cognitive reasoning and makes the person vulnerable to suggestion. It is a standard interrogation technique, and Obama is using it on our kids. With 12 hour days the kids will be eating two meas a day in school. And unless you are a farmer and eat steak and eggs in the morning breakfast is usually a low protein meal.
Given enough time separated from the real world, anyone can be brainwashed. With 12/7/52 education from K-Bachalors that gives Obama and Co 74,256 hours to break the will of your kids. Not much of a challenge when you think about it.

Oh, I knew about the lego stuff and the competitions. I agree it’s pretty danged neat - I wish they had that when I was in high school. It just came out funny (to me anyway) the way the guy casually lumped it in with dancing, etc.
