In a shocking display of common sense and responsibility, Californeeya's Governator Arnold Schwartzenegger has ordered that state workers be put on minimum wage of $7.25 and hour, until the state legislature passes a budget. I haven't been too impressed with much that the Governator's done in office, but this was a good call, in a broken-clock-is-right-twice-a-day kinid of way. Besides, that's where most state workers should be anyway, IMO - I mean, they're civil servants, right?
At any rate, this puts Schwartzenegger in a category of being way more responsible than Obama, who has let the US Congress dally and delay - they've basically just refused to pass one for 2011. What a slimy way to hide the truth from us all. Put another way, Obama and the Washington Dems are so bad, that they make the worst (Republican) Governor in America look great by comparison.

“All government workers should be on minimum wage”
This comment and a number of others gloating over this idiotic move by Schwarzenegger are from individuals who obviously don’t live or work here.
This will cause the economic depression here in Sacramento to deepen because it will effect those from whom state workers would have purchased goods and services.
Also - some state employees (doctors and lawyers) have been told they will not be paid at all. How many foreclosures do you think that will precipitate?
Personally I think the governor has made the dumbest move of his life - and sadly, will probably help Jerry Brown get elected because of it.
Do you know the treatment for a gangrenous limb?
I like how you think.
More accurately, if taxes were lowered to a more reasonable level and the state workers whose fates you lament were off the state payroll, then the taxpayers who would then pay less in taxes can purchase those goods and services directly instead of having to launder that money through the State.
You’re crazy - this issue has nothing to do with taxes.
We’re talking about people being paid minimum wage (or in some cases, no wage at all) instead of their usual wage or salary. Since a great majority of State employees work in downtown Sacramento, this effects a huge number of local businesses who depend on discretionary spending by these people.
I bet half the gov.con workers are worth 7.50 an hour. They would be lucky to make that much in the private sector with the skills they have
