Monty had many stories to tell: how, when he urged Churchill to fire the fogies in charge of Britain’s army after Dunkirk and boasted that he himself didn’t drink or smoke and was 100 percent fit, the nearly 67-year-old prime minister had eyed him with astonishment. “I smoke, I drink -and I’m 200 percent fit!” Churchill had retorted.

I guess sometimes a cigar isn’t just a cigar. It simply isn’t even when it is.

I don’t care how much airbrushing is done, you can’t change history. It is what it is. Try it and there will always be someone who will call you on it and make the truth be known.

I dont care how much airbrushing is done, you cant change history. I'm sure there is an attempt somewhere to airbrush him completely out of the history books.

See my comments here, at an earlier posting of this story. I recommend the book The Commissar Vanishes: The Falsification of Photographs and Art in Stalins Russia, by David King. We are taking up the Soviets’ bad habits and poof, down the Memory Hole.

Wonder if theyll censor the word Cigar out of the Clinton / Lewinsky story too? They may, but they will never be able to erase the 'Clinton Chant' from FReeper lore.
