After having spent two years in the Navy and 20 in the Army, I would say that either the Marines or the Army would be better for his enlistment.

However, speaking as an ex-infantryman who became a REMF court reporter/stenographer, if he's as smart as you say, my recommendation would be for him to go into ROTC at the college and come into the Service as an officer. Any officer who has a parent who is also a FReeper is someone that the Army desperately needs.

LOL. I wish he would take the ROTC route. I think certain guys just can’t take K-12 schooling and come out looking forward to another 4 years of college. He wants a long break from school, and he’s not going to take it here in our house.

I second this recommendation. It sounds like he wants to take a break from college. But, if he were to finish college before entering the service, he would be an officer, rather than enlisted.

His opportunities would be much better, both short-term and long-term.
