Not much, considering his opponent in the Dim primary raised about $200,000 for the race, and campaigned across the state. Meanwhile, the presumptive Dim nominee got booted out of the Army last year; he’s facing felony charges and he lives at home with his parents. His campaign motto: “Putting SC Back to Work” (beginning, I assume, with him).

My first assignment in the Air Force 30 years ago was in South Carolina. Back in those days, it was the state GOP that had to scrounge for candidates (with the exception of Strom Thurmond). But I don’t think the GOP ever stooped to this level.

On the other hand, the Dim candidate does represent many of the constituencies his party is trying to reach; slackers (thanks for the hots-and-a-cot, mom); the unemployed, dishonorably discharged veterans (call it the Jessie McBeal bloc) and the incarcerated population (he’ll be there soon enough). It’s just a shame this guy isn’t gay and didn’t sneak across the southern border; otherwise, he’d hit the Democratic equivalent of a grand slam.

I hereby call on all FReepers to do whatever you can to keep this guy in the race. Send him some money (he didn’t spend anything in the primary, so he won’t need more than $50-75 for the general election).
