Thats damn near moronic, cars on the road have widely varying capabilities. I was rear ended once on a major highway ,, came over a rise and traffic was snarled. I was driving a VW GTI and still had my autocross competition tires mounted from the weekend... the car behind me was a Vega station wagon with skinny cheap tires and the car behind him was a 1 ton 4wd truck with an full bed of construction tools... The people behind me didnt stand a chance.. That GTI could stop FAR quicker than they could.
We have cameras in use where I live ,, I have come close to being rear ended many times.
There's nothing moronic about my statement. If people aren't aware of the capabilities of the car they are driving then they shouldn't be on the road. Or, at least, they should drive far enough behind the car in front of them so as not to rear end them in cases such as this. I know that larger vehicles take more distance to brake.
I was rear ended on the freeway because people were driving too fast for the road conditions. They weren't speeding but traffic was congested.
If people aren’t aware of the capabilities of the car they are driving then they shouldn’t be on the road.

I live in Florida ,, there are so many old people with non-existant reflexes that no amount of distance is “safe” .. while I agree that people are reponsible for knowing their and their cars capabilities the simple truth is that very few people do. The cameras are for revenue generation. If you don’t think so then why do the cameras disappear when the revenue generation component is removed by law.
