Interesting series of events:

Thad Allen says that the first cuts are beginning and that the effort to cap the well was well under way and going good.

A few minutes later Obama announced that the Justice Department was pursuing legal action against BP

A few minutes later BP suddenly pulls are their equipment and announces that all efforts other the relief wells (which will be done in August some time) have been halted.

Sounds to me like BP decided to give Obama a big F.U.

So that means that the cut part never happened from what you’re describing. They were saying that after the cut, it would gush out even faster so if this didn’t work we would be worse off. If they don’t think it’s going to work, maybe its best that they don’t try it...

It seems no one is considering the 2 Chronicles 7:14 solution: If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and seek My face and change their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive them and heal their land.

We have not because we ask not.

Right. The riser pipe was crimped partially, I could see the smaller piping along the side being deformed from the pressure. But for some reason, they stopped before actually cutting the riser off, and pulled up stakes. They’ve almost certainly got a good reason for it, we just don’t know what it is yet.

I'm thinking Aquaman or Sub Mariner would be more appropriate..

Exactly, and once Obama announced that the Gov was going after BP, they decided to cut their losses and stop all the relief efforts as they don't want to make it any worse.

By running his mouth the Community Organizer has just garaunteed a minimum of two more months of unchecked oil flow.

It could be that there was something additional inside the riser that they weren't aware of, which made shearing beyond it's capability. Or it could be that the chomper just wasn't generating force to specs, and going up for troubleshooting.

Someone further down in the thread says they won’t finishing cutting the pipe for the next attempted cap for 3 days.

Here...

Tyler, you need to double check sources before you post this stuff as your rate of error is getting pretty high.

From AP, 12:10 CST:

Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen is saying that BP is in the middle of its first major pipe cut in the company's latest bid to contain the oil spewing into the Gulf of Mexico. Allen, the national incident commander, said Tuesday that it could be as many as three days before oil can be contained and siphoned to the surface. BP has another major cut to do before a cap can be lowered on to the leak

Same Guy, totally different comments. There's more bull$hit flowing than oil. and most of it is from the hate oil crowd.

Yep - there is drill pipe inside the riser.

Disappointed by the performance of the shear tool - they are going to have to diamond cut the horizontal leg of the riser first, before attacking the next cut above the BOP.

I was following that as well. Perhaps as they started to crimp the riser, pressures and flow rate at the BOP increased far more than expected. May have put at risk blowing out the whole well head.

Just a guess but something wasn't going according to plan.
