If there is any antagonizing going on, it's not by us...

Right now, some serious Muslim scholars are trying to rewrite Islam into a more peaceful, modern religion. To do this they emphasize minor parts that advocate peace, and downplay the parts that call for violence and other intolerable practices. It’s called “hypocrisy”.

However, a long time ago, the same basic process happened to Christianity, to the effect of, “When King ‘A’ fights Prince ‘B’, God does not noticeably choose sides. So neither of them can claim the mandate of heaven.”

The end result, hopefully, will be much like a ‘Protestant’ version of Islam. With ideas like: “Jihad is internal, not external”, and “Allah favors no one who murders innocent people, even if it is done in His name.”

The bottom line is once this is published, we in the West will be able to distinguish between “radical” and “moderate” Muslims. The moderate Muslims will embrace the reforms, and the radicals will not.
