Tonight, the Phoenix Suns basketball team will wear special jerseys during their NBA Western Conference playoff game. The jerseys will be emblazoned with the words, "Los Suns." Is this merely an acknowledgement that it's Cinco de Mayo? A way for the team to, as Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver wrote in a statement, "honor our Latino community and the diversity of our league, the State of Arizona, and our nation?" Or is it the politicizing of professional sports on the issue of illegal immigration?

And if one of the players refused to wear the jersey?
A good reason not to subsidize sports teams and their arenas and stadiums with public money. What a crock!
Suns? We need no stinkin Suns. Let the illegals buy the overpriced tickets.
People should spend two minutes to do a little googling and find out that they have been doing this for years for Cinco de Mayo.
If the Suns put there money where the mouth is they would take their security away from the game and allow illegal spectators to watch and deal with the season ticket holders who don’t get seats.
If you read the article you’ll see that team management, players and others are saying outright that this is in opposition to the new law.
They predicted the passing of the law years ago? I wonder if they can give me next weeks lotto numbers...
Go to the game without tickets and demand to be let in. Or, sneak in.
After all, you have a right to be there.
Politically outspoken Steve Nash (the Suns’ point guard) said today on ESPN that they’re wearing it in “solidarity” with the Latino community because of the latter’s justified concerns about the new law. He didn’t mention Cinco de Mayo.
....although I don’t doubt you’re right about the Suns wearing the jerseys in question on that day in the past.
IIRC, didn’t the MFL give Chad Ochocinco all kinds of grief for wearing a sombrero to a game to celebrate his heritage?
Excellent idea. Oh how I wish the Blazers would have gotten the job done so these idiots wouldn’t have this chance.
...fans who do go to the game should pay for everything with pesos.
This really stinks! I’m a big fan of the Suns and I’m so upset over this! As if we don’t have enough crap going on around here now the Phoenix Suns have decided to slam their politcal views into the game.
Just curious ... why sport the “latino” jersey? Why not an international one? Okay, so its Cinco de Mayo ... but did the Suns wear “O’Suns” for St.Patrick’s Day in honor or the Irish fans?
Who’s being racist now?
Stop being a fool and read the comments from the owner and from Steve Nash.
Shouldn't that be Los Sols? If I were hispanic, I would be deeply offended at this.
You are pretty bold with your choice of words from behind that keyboard tough guy.
Doesn’t matter, if you’re watching NBA chances are you’re just watching and supporting a bunch of Obama voters playing ball. Time for conservatives to put their money where their mouth is and turn their backs on the NBA, let’s see how well they do with just liberal and illegal alien support, that seems to be the only types they care about.
