I am new. What is a ping?

Pinging means when you alert someone to a specific comment or thread.

I might see a topic I think you’re interested in, so I will make a comment and put your screen name in the “To” box to bring you to that topic. Then when you check your comments (links are located on the top and bottom of each thread, it says “Pings”) you’ll see all the comments you’ve made, and any made to you.

There are also ping lists, that you can ask to join, wherein people have lists of others who want to be alerted to certain topics.

I think there is a FR Lexicon thread that tells this and other stuff.
