Tajik troops have waged close-quarter battles with al-Qaida terrorists after uncovering a training camp in a remote valley.
The discovery prompted warnings that militants are spreading out of Afghanistan and into its gas and oil-rich Central Asian neighbours.
Insurgents led by Abdullo Rakhimov, a warlord who is one of Central Asia’s most senior followers of Osama bin Laden, were thought to be training in camps in the Rasht valley, 30 miles north of the country’s border with Afghanistan.

Lusaka - President Rupiah Banda on Thursday urged Zambians not to condemn Chinese managers for shooting 12 workers at Maamba Collum coal mine, saying other people also shoot their employees.
“Let’s be careful that we do not single out people. Every day people are shot at by Zambians, whites, Americans. This business of ‘Chinese, Chinese’, we should not create a phobia against people,” Banda said.
The two Chinese nationals have been charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting randomly at Zambian miners who protested poor working conditions at their Chinese-run mine last Friday.

one of two men killed on a street in the violent border city of Ciudad
Juarez, Mexico.
Spokesman Arturo Sandoval of the Chihuahua state attorney general’s office
says family members identified the soldier as 21-year-old Jose Gil
Hernandez, of El Paso.

differ in their beliefs.
What is particularly interesting about this line of argument (which is
commonly made in al Qaeda’s messages to Muslims, but not to the West) is
that it contradicts a misconception about Awlaki. It is commonly argued that
Awlaki was radicalized only because of American foreign policy in the
aftermath of 9/11. That is not true, as a matter of fact. His ties to the
terror network before 9/11 were many. Moreover, Awlaki uses Inspire to make
it abundantly clear that his ideology requires him to oppose all others on
religious grounds that have nothing to do with this or that policy.
And he seeks new recruits in the West to carry out AQAP’s next round of
attacks.

Bulgaria is a legitimate target of al-Qaeda because it has sent its soldiers
to support the US invaders in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Lebanon-based Sunni
extremist group Asbat al-Ansar has announced.
In an interview for the Bulgarian daily “24 Hours,” Sheikh Abu Sharif, the
spokesman of Asbat al-Ansar, has threatened the Bulgarian government to pull
out its troops from Afghanistan before it is too late.
His statement was made in Ayn al-Hilwah Palestinian refugee camp near Sidon
in southern Lebanon in the presence of the leader Haytham Abd Al-Karim Al
Sa’di, aka Abu Tariq.

A man who admitted to scouting out target locations for the Mumbai terror
attacks said he also shot footage of India’s Bhabha Atomic Research Center
and its living quarters for Pakistan’s intelligence service, the Times of

Former Chicago resident David Headley told Indian investigators he was asked
by Major Iqbal, his manager at Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, to
scope out the Mumbai-based nuclear facility and its residential area as a
possible attack site. “He gave me the mobile phone camera (and) some
counterfeit money,” said Headley, who is now in U.S. custody.
Headley provided video footage of the site to Iqbal, but not to his contact
for the Pakistani-based extremist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which has been
credited with carrying out the Mumbai strikes that killed more than 160
people.
Pakistan has denied any involvement in planning or carrying out the Mumbai
attacks.

AL QAEDA PORGRAMMER ARRESTED IN TURKEY
Turkish police have detained five men suspected of having ties to a group fighting with the Al Qaeda network in Afghanistan, a senior security official in Izmir in western Turkey told Reuters on Friday 10/22/2010. “We detained five men from five different cities: Hatay, Istanbul, Kayseri, Antalya and Izmir,” the official said.
The five, who were described as students, were taken to court after being arrested two days earlier in west and southwest Turkey.
“These people belong to an Aegean branch of Al Qaeda. The leader is currently in Afghanistan, fighting for Al Qaeda.”
The leader of the group was named “Zekeriya” and served time in prison before joining the insurgency against Afghan and NATO-ISAF forces in Afghanistan, said the official, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information.
The arrests come hard on the heels of last month’s security scare across Europe, which followed the arrest in Germany of European Muslims believed to belong to a branch the Global Jihad network (see - All-Europe Plot).

Adam Gadahn, Al Qaeda’s American mouthpiece, urges wannabe terrorists to go it alone

WASHINGTON - Al Qaeda’s American mouthpiece Saturday urged wannabe terrorists in a new video to act alone instead of trying to join cells attempting 9/11-type spectacular strikes.
Californian Adam Gadahn urged individual violent jihad in a 40-minute tape, which endorsed an Al Qaeda ally’s call last week for sympathizers to mimic the Ft. Hood killings and attempted bombings over Detroit last Christmas and in Times Square in May.
“My brothers: know that Jihad is your duty,” Gadahn ranted in Arabic. “You have an opportunity to strike the leaders of unbelief and retaliate against them on their own soil.”
The message is significant because Osama Bin Laden’s operational goal has long been to kill hundreds, if not thousands, in simultaneous multiple attacks on U.S. targets with cells of extremists - and Gadahn speaks for Al Qaeda.
Last week, the Yemeni spin-off of Bin Laden’s terror network, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, released a slick 74-page online “magazine” called “Inspire” with essays by Yemeni-American imam Anwar al-Awlaki urging individual jihad.
The Gadahn tape and AQAP publication were obtained by the SITE Intelligence Group.
