Sean Hannity Calls His Fans “Tim McVeigh Wannabes”
Mediaite ^

Posted on 04/01/2010 12:57:54 PM PDT by AlanD

Earlier this week, Fox News host Sean Hannity broadcast his eponymous show Hannity from the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. Towards the end of the show, Hannity made a rather startling claim that conservatives won the debate regarding health care. Perhaps more startling, or more to the point, unsettling, was his facetious labeling of his fans as “Tim McVeigh wannabes.”

Hannity’s full quote can be viewed in the video below, but he says “I think we won the debate… When you think of the vast majorities that they have in Congress and they had to bribe, backroom deals, corruption. That’s all because the Tea Party movement, the people, all these Tim McVeigh wannabes here.”

Clearly this is in reference to criticism on the left that the pitched rhetoric from conservatives might lead to violence. To be fair, right of center pundits have made similar claims.

And while Hannity uses the term “Tim McVeigh Wannabes” to deride criticisms with which he disagrees, to casually invoke the name of Timothy McVeigh, a domestic terrorist found guilty for killing 168 innocent citizens (some of which were babies) is rather reprehensible. Or put another way, if Hannity doesn’t like the McVeigh reference, he shouldn’t use it himself.

Rush and Levin are the “thinkers”. Sean is merely a cheerleader.

Sean has never been much of a thinker.

He has his list of ten things, beyond that not much there.

Do they even teach the social contract theory anymore , and what happens when government breaks it ? Free people will revert to a natural state before they accept slavery .

You're absolutely right of course.

Some newby posts a thread, quoting Hannity out of context (actually, mis-quoting him out of context) and everybody starts running around like their hair is on fire. Jeepers, people, get a grip

You are right, it is sarcasm. I watched bits of Rachel Maddow over the past few days (I like to know what they are up to) and she was bringing up timothy NcVeigh quite often with regards to the Tea Party folks. Generally she follows Dem talking points to a tee. I am assuming the other government controlled networks did the same. When I snooped on the Huffington post they made the case for us being potential terrorists as well. I think he was just making fun of them.

Juan Williams: 'Don't Tread on Me' Flags are 'Timothy McVeigh' Imagery

On Monday's O'Reilly Factor on Fox News, NPR news analyst Juan Williams furthered the left's talking point about the tea party's supposed connection to militias, and even went so far to claim that the Gadsden or "Don't Tread on Me" flags used by the conservative grassroots movement is "the same imagery that was on Timothy McVeigh"

I don’t know why it was so hard to see the sarcasm in it.

They were just talking about the left-wing media abuse of all obama opponents, fer cryin out loud.

“Gadsden flag is McVeigh symbolism”

Oh good God. I guess Charles Town was just a bunch of terrorists, then, anxious to blow up Brits at the slightest chance.

From The Raw Story:

Sean Hannity broadcast his national talk show from KSL studios Wednesday.

He told a small gathering before the show that the Tea Party movement is legitimate and will withstand mounting attacks from its opponents on the left.

"We've got veterans, we've got stay-at-home moms, people who really don't like the direction of the country. They're speaking out and they've been compared to terrorists, Tim McVeigh-wannabes. They've been called un-American. They've been called every name in the book. Now, the latest attack is that these people are violent," he said.

So, Hannity was almost definitely using sarcasm when he referred to his audience as "McVeigh-wannabes."

And even that concept was borrowed from David Letterman.

He wasn’t calling the conservative movement “Tim McVeigh wannabes” he was saying that was how the libs and msm see the conservative movement.

His radio show is a non-stop commercial for his TV show (interspersed with commercials for gold and hair restoration).
