Some people on this board will flame me for wanting to consider a “commie gun,” but an AK doesn’t seem like too bad of an idea because of the take-down power, ruggedness, and the fact that they are dirt cheap. Of course, accuracy is shite.

What didn’t you like about the XD? I held that along with the Taurus that was that size and the Glock. I liked the feel of the Springfield XD best, but didn’t shoot it yet.

Honestly for some reason composite grips don’t agree with my hands. I like the feel of an all metal firearm.

If not an XD, Taurus makes a REAL nice 1911-A1. For about $500 bucks, which is cheap.

That is part of the draw: Better take-down power than 5.56.

Very thoughtful article, and a wise thesis (by my lights).
In times of stress, we should always ask “WWBVD?” (What Would Boone Vikerson Do?)

Yep, I’ve seen the taurus. Love the feel of the 1911. I’m new to firearms and have not yet fired a 45. I think I will do so today at the range.

Understood. Those “neighbors” however will revert to type at the first opportunity. When the power comes back on. When their bellies are refilled. When the dust settles and the smoke clears. I will not provide arms to reformed “zombies” or closet Obamanites.

PowderMonkey makes a good point...I’d just as soon print out Travis’ fine essay and give it to the neighbor, telling them “here’s something you might mull over on your own behalf”.

So just the feel of the grips? How about the performance of the gun? What caliber did you shoot?

Besides the people one side of me would probably rather wave the Obama sticker in their window at a perp. “

I hope it never come to that, but if it does, sooner rather than later, I’m gettin’ old.

4.7 lbs. Unloaded. They use any AR 15 magazine. Another Freeper showed me this. I’ve had mine for a few months now. Put several hundred rounds through it, and it has performed flawlessly.
