OK, he took him to a culvert....not home. Remember, this was an officer, he was supposed to set an example for the rest of his men. He didnt break unlawful orders, he disregarded a lawful one and this is what this is all about. Not a dead Iraqi. Then again, if he couldnt act within the realm of his rank he should have resigned his commission.
Thats why he was found guilty for unpremeditated.
Our leaders today are wrong IMO.
Having said that I want to make it clear that to my knowledge our W.W.II forces cannot be compared in any way to Russian forces back then nor to the Russian forces' attempt to defeat Chechnya -- despite Hollywood's apparent latest(!) attempt to smear American W.W.II forces. Of course! it's a hit in Obama's White House.
I have never served in combat and will of course defer to those who have. Some today may argue that there are compelling reasons to avoid the unconditional surrender approach.
