I’m sure things are different that what they could have been...what isn’t? How do YOU know everything YOU just said about God may not be correct? How do YOU know that time as we know it will end?
I think the child should read a book about FDR that is aimed for 5th graders, then write a report on what he/she read.
oh— I almost forgot. My third grader and her classmates can tell you all those same things...
And all her classmates have a copy of our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution because I gave them out and lead a lesson in her class. The teacher was delighted...I give the same lesson to college students as well....along with passing out copies of our founding documents to them as well....
The younger students love to learn the new things, the college students get mad...but both groups realize one thing.....
knowledge is power....
that is a lesson far greater than the name or title of a gov’t leader...
See #48, #56.
I cared enough to home school and have never regretted it.
Great.
The first schools were generally in the town church and the first text books were Bibles.
Even the most church-oriented schools do not teach reading and math out of the Bible. A distant relative of mine who lived well over a hundred years ago fell ill and died after she came home from school one day. Her school books were wrapped up in a package. When I was a kid I saw the package opened up for the first time. It did not contain a Bible.
she was reading at a 5th grade level 2 yrs ago...I don’t limit her ability to learn....
you are entitled to your opinion, but I sure am glad you aren’t raising MY child....
Sounds like you have a wonderful child, and is very knowledgeable about factual data.
Yes, me too.
thanks...
it is all her doing...I just get the chance to share things with a child that wants to learn....ya can’t teach the desire to learn...but you can sure nurture it...and inspire it.
This is what I know about God and time: II Peter 3:8.
This is how I know about our time coming to an end: II Peter 3:9-10.
How do I know this to be the TRUTH about time? I don’t question God’s inspired Word.
Your tagline implies that you have no choice...no free will...this is what I have an issue with. Could I be misunderstanding? I’ve been wrong before and I am not afraid to be wrong again. Making a mistake is a good way to learn, although a bit painful.
I appreciate your thoughts on what you think 5th graders should do. However, my 5th grader reads on a 10th grade reading level and would find the typical 5th grade book highly unsatisfactory for her purposes. What ever happened to “aim for the sky?”

Contrary to what my grandparents thought, FDR was a crook and a scoundrel.
Good luck in reducing the main points.
What older people remember most is The WPA program,(building schools, parks, bridges, highways, piers, jetties, etc., The CCC program ... many parks conservation improvements, Dams,, the creation of the income tax, the social security intiation and promise. World War 11,. The war created huge demand for weapons and equipment, which ignited our economy and new defense building of all kinds. hiring thousands and thousands. When women really began to do a man's job.
We were given rationing books.. Coupons for gasoline, shoes, sugar, chocolate, etc.,
Government Victory stamps savings books, later redeemed with some interest paid on them. Many trails to consider pursuing. Pick a few.
Built the first Atom Bomb. He is said, to have America out at the meeting at sea at Yalta conference. Check it out..
How do you KNOW your references are correct and that they really are God’s inspired word?
You are correct in your thinking. I believe we are all part of God’s plan.
Well, lets see,....100 years ago would be 1910. She may not have brought home her Bible, but I can assure you there was one in the class. Texas was studying the Bible in class as late as 1957. There are textbooks that are available to prove so. The Blue Back Speller or the New England Primer were the way almost every American learned to read for more than 150 years. Both used Bible verses to teach kids to read, write, and have morals from the Bible. In early America there were no books other than the Bible and a hymnal in the class.
A good source of information would be Education and the Founding Fathers or America's Godly Heritage by David Barton. Each can be ordered at Wallbuilders.com. Just learning that each of our colleges was a religious institution in the beginning is an interesting study. Look at the requirements for entrance into Harvard or Princeton at the time of the Founders. If you studied engineering or mathematics, you could have been a PHD in religion on the side.
I'm only 58 years old and can remember praying in school every day and learning Bible verses in Texas schools every day. Didn't matter if you were a non believer or not. That was where our values came from and knowledge of what was expected of us to be good citizens. No one tried to convert anyone, but the logic of God's Word was a foundation for everyone to learn moral behavior and what would be expected of them if they weren't moral. We had Catholics, Baptists, Methodists and all, but we all stayed on what the Bible said and stayed away from doctrines of men.
I was also taught in 6th grade( and beyond) Social Studies, that socialism doesn't work,.....ever! I was given example after example of socialist countries that have failed, were failing, or were on the path to failure using a failed system. Talk to a kid today and they are wearing Che Tee shirts. They have no clue about anything in the real world. A public school graduate today is almost a moron compared to when I was in school. They can't find anything on a map, they have no clue about history, most of the time cannot even get the correct century for an event, and have never read the Constitution they will probably, at some time, take an oath to protect. Some of our Founders were changing the world at 14-20 years old, and many were self taught. Today we have 30 year olds living at home playing video games and smoking dope.
We know what works, but we have let it slip away because we didn't want to get involved. The education a parent gives their child, especially a 2 parent family that interacts with their child, will be a cornerstone for that child as they become adults. If the father comes home from work and says he is too tied to help with homework, and the mother is busy with housework, what message does that send to the child about how important they are and what they are learning? They will figure mom and dad don't care, so I will just do enough to skim by and work at Mc Donald's. On the contrary, if the father helps and guides his daughter in their homework assignments, she will learn what dad and mom feel is important and want to be like them. To leave your child's education up to the public school system is child abuse, IMHO. Placing a condom on a banana isn't rocket science.
We are no longer promoting the ideas of this thread. I hear you say that you do not believe that the Bible is God’s inspired Word and that you do not have free will. If I am incorrect in my understanding of your words, please post to me privately so that we do not continue to take this thread off path, or start a new thread on this subject, if you desire. I would be most happy to continue this conversation, but out of respect to the thread, not here. And yes, I brought it up, so that is right, I was the first to make a derailed move. Sorry to Eeevil for that.
For a clear-eyed view by an old leftist, track down “The Managerial Revolution”. That’s a survey work about world politics, but when the author discusses FDR’s New Deal regime, he makes it clear what it was.
