The Hyde Amendment right now restricts funding of abortion in any spending bill for Health and Human Services. Since this bill is not a spending bill for Health and Human Services, the Hyde Amendment does not automatically apply.
Stupak, through the amendment process, inserted Hyde language in the House bill. Then he voted for the bill.
The bill then went to the Senate, was changed and passed.
President Obama came up with a different plan and wanted a new vote in the Senate.
Both the Senate bill and Obamas bill provide for federal funding of abortion.
The bill Stupak is referring to right now provides grants to clinics that offer abortions.
It also requires a monthly premium of not less than a dollar per month for abortion coverage.
It refuses to clarify preventative services as abortion, leaving the ambiguity that will allow abortion.
Central to the bill is funding for FQHCs or community health centers that provide abortions.
House Leader Nancy Pelosi insists there is no abortion funding in the bill.
Pelosi also insists that under reconciliation, abortion cannot be addressed because reconciliation is a budgeting process.(The Heritage Foundation)
However, we have a false choice. Stupak wants us to focus on abortion, instead of this monstrous power grab.
The people of the First District are self-sufficient rugged individualists.
This trick by Stupak cannot be allowed to continue to frame this debate.
Despite suggestions that Stupak is raising a fuss over abortion funding in the bill, his constituency is more heavily concerned with the bill itself. Not that the First District isnt overwhelmingly Pro-life, it is, but Stupak is falsely emphasizing the importance of abortion wording in the bill.

Okay, can you see now? I have been watching Michigan become more interested in primary candidates and since they are afraid to seem like they are against Stupaks abortion message, that they forget about the monstrous power grab!

What about the Constituion and enumerated powers? We would not be having a discussion about Federal funding of abortions if the Federal politicians kept their paws off stuff they shouldn’t be interfering with.
We have a contsitutional crisis on our hands. I don’t think I’ve seen such arrogance on the part of the Feds in my life time, nor have I read about such since the prelude to the Civil War.
You are correct when you say that most here are not for abortion. It was obvious to most, he was trying to divert attention from this monster bill. He talked it up enthusiastically. And as noble as it sounds, that he won't vote for a bill with abortion funding. It's also obvious, given half a chance he probably will vote for it.

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.
The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.
Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.
President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees in fiscal 2010, Matz said. We took them at their word, and I cant believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward, he added.

A “pro-life” Democrat is a Democrat who demands an opportunity sometime during the legislative process to cast a “pro-life” vote or two as boob-bait.
The biggest deception of all is that we are all being duped into believing that the fight for this bill involves Bart Stupak. The real fight is for the votes of Democrats who voted “No” the first time around simply for cover - knowing the bill would pass anyway. There were probably 20 or more of them, and they are all just waiting around now for the right “deal” to be offered to guarantee a change of heart this time around. Once enough of them are bribed into switching their votes, Stupak will be left in the dust. He doesn’t really care, because he’s getting the benefit of being turned into a pro-life hero by the media, despite the fact that his yes vote enabled this whole fiasco to occur.
Once the votes are secured, Stupak will be able to say he never compromised his principles, and the Democrats will be able to go to their baby-killing supporters and say that they triumphed over the anti-choice crowd.
This is dirty, dirty politics at its worst.
