‘RACIST MADE DEADLY RICIN FOR TERROR PLOT’
BELFAST TELEGRAPH.co.uk ^ | Tuesday, 9 March 2010 | n/a
Posted on March 9, 2010 5:37:39 PM PST by Cindy

SNIPPET: “A white supremacist yesterday admitted producing deadly ricin while preparing for acts of terrorism.

Ian Davison’s home in Myrtle Grove, Burnopfield, Co Durham, was raided by anti-terror officers who found the killer substance in a jam jar in his kitchen.

At Newcastle Crown Court he admitted producing a chemical weapon — ricin — and preparing for acts of terrorism.”

SNIPPET: “He will be sentenced after the trial of his son Nicky Davison (19), who denies two charges of possessing material containing information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing acts of terrorism.

The case will be heard on April 12.”

Davison was remanded in custody while his son was granted bail.

I haven’t seen a workup on that, ExSoldier, but my time here has been minimal with my schedule these days.

Perhaps Granny or Cindy have your answer?

Ongoing prayers for Mrs. ExSoldier.

Still praying for your wife ex-soldier.

The short answer is still the same answer from years ago and it is still accurate today.

The global jihad is 24/7.

If a window of opportunity presents itself and the jihadis (or lone jihadi) are ready; they will attack.

The jihadis are (still) fighting a war. They are focused and they have never stopped. When there is one Islamic Ummah; they will stop (or they will fight with each other until the last Islamist group is left standing).

As for the GWOT, it’s pretty much like President Bush said (paraphrasing): Some you will see (ie military, increased leo presence, etc.); some you won’t (special units, private efforts, etc.).

Cheap way to disperse acid to the masses, and I am hearing on the police scanner recently that they are tossing beer bottles from the windows of the hotels in Las Vegas into the crowds.

al-Qaeda Still Targets US
March 8, 2010

by Lee Hamilton

snipped...

Al-Qaida’s tactics have become clearer. They seek to provoke us into over-reaction and costly wars that will exhaust and bankrupt us. They want to divide our allies and us. They aim to destabilize Middle Eastern governments, such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan and, more recently, Yemen.

There are other emerging trends. One is al-Qaida’s de-centralization, a consequence of our success, which has empowered regional affiliates like al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. Al-Qaida central has not directed any of the recently attempted terrorist attacks on the American homeland. Regional affiliates and lone wolves have launched smaller-scale attacks, which are harder to detect and disrupt. However, as was the case with the underwear bomber in Detroit, they are often poorly executed.

Al-Qaida and its affiliates have also increasingly emphasized the recruitment of homegrown extremists fluent in English with Western passports and citizenship. There are reportedly American converts to Islam seeking al-Qaida training.

In the years ahead, America will leave Iraq and troop levels in Afghanistan will decrease. Intelligence gathering, cooperation with friendly countries and training missions will be of paramount importance. Predator drone attacks may remain a prominent feature of our counterterrorism policies.

As the United States adapts its policies, we must learn from the mistakes we have made, no easy task with an issue so heavily exploited for political gain.

Rather than careful analysis of the terrorist threat — something akin to government investigations of airline crashes — we too often endure political gamesmanship. We need nonpartisan and expert-led analysis rather than finger pointing, so that we learn as much as we can from every incident, identify when something goes wrong, and quickly right it.

Obviously, we must urgently strengthen all aspects of homeland security and the collection and analysis of intelligence.

We also must ask the difficult legal and ethical questions as they relate to targeted assassinations, the status of American citizens fighting on behalf of al-Qaida, and the prosecution of terrorists. The struggle goes on.

[Excellent article, should be sent to the liberals of the world]\

snipped...........

This business of being a sheep or a sheep dog is not a yes-no dichotomy. It is not an all-or-nothing, either-or choice. It is a matter of degrees, a continuum. On one end is an abject, head-in-the-sand-sheep and on the other end is the ultimate warrior. Few people exist completely on one end or the other. Most of us live somewhere in between. Since 9-11 almost everyone in America took a step up that continuum, away from denial. The sheep took a few steps toward accepting and appreciating their warriors, and the warriors started taking their job more seriously. The degree to which you move up that continuum, away from ‘sheephood’ and denial, is the degree to which you and your loved ones will survive, physically and psychologically at your moment of truth.

The Saudi Foreign Minister Explains the New Middle East
http://rubinreports.blogspot.com/2010/03/saudi-foreign-minister-explains-new.html
By Barry Rubin

Here’s today’s evidence that we are now living in Middle East 2.0 instead of the old version.

First, a definition:

Middle East 1.0: Characterized by Arab nationalist domination, competition among the strongerArab states to lead the region and by the weaker ones trying to survive those campaigns. Arab-Israeli conflict is a real enterprise. Roughly 1952-2000 or so. International aspect: Cold War competition between the United States and USSR and, near the end, US as sole superpower.

Middle East 2.0: Characterized by a battle between Arab nationalist regimes and revolutionary Islamists. An Iran-led bloc (Syria, Hamas, Hizballah, Iraqi insurgents) seeking regional hegemony. Israel and most Arab states have parallel interests; Arab states (except for Syria) put low priority on conflict. International aspect: Will the West support the moderates or appease the radicals.

The latest occasion is an interview of Prince Saud al-Faisal, the Saudi foreign minister with Maureen Dowd of the New York Times. Of course, there are the usual rhetorical flourishes about Israel but the passion and focus is clearly on Iran and various Islamist terrorists. (“There is nothing wrong with keeping the terrorists on the run,” says the prince.)

This is the same man who told Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that sanctions would be too slow in stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons and the United States better do something quick. Here he says he prefers a resolution through the UN but it isn’t clear what that means.

http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/03/uk-al-qaeda-cell-came-within-days-of-attack-around-easter-of-2009.html

“U.K.: Al-Qaeda cell came “within days” of attack around Easter of 2009”

SNIPPET: “This was the case where officials were sent scrambling due to an assistant police commissioner being photographed with highly-classified documents visible. The new details illustrate what a close call this may have been, no thanks to said commissioner. “Al-Qaeda came within days of terror attack on Britain last year, court hears,” by Duncan Gardham for the Telegraph, March 9 (thanks to all who sent this in):

An alleged al-Qaeda terrorist cell arrested in the North West was within days of launching an attack on Britain a senior officer in MI5 has told a tribunal.
The men, who were arrested in Manchester and Liverpool in April last year, were said to be in direct contact with al-Qaeda in Pakistan, using coded email messages that talked about cars and girls.
They were said to be “operating in a similar manner” to those planning the mass casualty attacks of July 7 2005 and the trans-Atlantic airline plot of 2006.
Sources at the time said the gang was targeting Easter shoppers but police found no sign of bomb-making equipment and they were never charged.
The operation had to be brought forward after Assistant Commissioner Bob Quick, then Britain’s most senior counter-terrorism officer, was photographed entering Downing Street with details of the operation visible.
The “Al-Qaeda Pipeline,” still in action:

Four of the men, who had all arrived from Pakistan on student visas, are now appealing against a government decision to deport them on national security grounds. [...]”

As troops massed on his border near the start of the Persian Gulf War,
Iraqi President Saddam Hussein weighed the purchase of a $150 million
nuclear “package” deal that included not only weapons designs but also
production plants and foreign experts to supervise the building of a
nuclear bomb, according to documents uncovered by a former U.N. weapons
inspector.

The offer, made in 1990 by an agent linked to disgraced Pakistani
scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan, guaranteed Iraq a weapons-assembly line
capable of producing nuclear warheads in as little as three years. But
Iraq lost the chance to capitalize when, months later, a multinational
force crushed the Iraqi army and forced Hussein to abandon his nuclear
ambitions, according to nuclear weapons expert David Albright, who
describes the proposed deal in a new book.

Iraqi officials at the time appear to have taken the offer seriously and
asked the Pakistanis for sample drawings as proof of their ability to
deliver, the documents show. “With the assurance of [Iraqi intelligence
agency] Mukhabarat . . . the offer is not a sting operation,” an Iraqi
official scrawls in ink in the margin of one of the papers.

Khan’s alleged interest in selling nuclear secrets to Hussein has been
reported in numerous books and news articles. An internal Mukhabarat
memo that surfaced in the late 1990s discussed a secret proposal by one
of Khan’s agents to sell a nuclear weapons design for an advance payment
of $5 million.

But the newly uncovered documents suggest that Khan’s offer of nuclear
assistance was more comprehensive than previously known. A 1990 letter
attributed to a Khan business associate offered Iraq a chance to leap
past technical hurdles to acquire weapons capability.

“Pakistan had to spend a period of 10 years and an amount of 300 million
U.S. dollars to get it,” begins one of the memos. “Now, with the
practical experience and worldwide contacts Pakistan has developed, you
could have A.B. in about three years’ time and by spending about $150
million.” “A.B.” was understood to mean “atomic bomb,” Albright wrote in
“Peddling Peril: How the Secret Nuclear Trade Arms America’s Enemies,”
released this week.
