Furthermore, rooting around out on the ‘net, I distilled this information:
“When it comes to the issue of how best to estimate the hours needed for a project, it turns out that the simple opinion of a skilled technician is preferred over complex methods such as using time/task standards or averaging past project performance. Counterintuitively (or perhaps not), when complex estimating methods are employed, experience shows that the best of these estimates are routinely off by as much as 100 percent. Work estimated to take five hours might take as many as ten or as few as two. Some planning methods involve the application of detailed standards to each tiny portion of a project. These tiny elements are then added together to calculate a total project estimate. Not only does this type of estimate take forever, historical records across all segments of industry document that such estimates are no more accurate than plus or minus 100 percent. A skilled technician can usually make just as accurate an estimate (plus or minus 100 percent) from a simple review of the project.”
It would seem, then, that the accuracy of such seemingly crude methods as ours is well-proven, and that such methods are actually preferred.
Go to the head of the class.
I keep dreaming of being hit on the head. I looked it up. It said I’m working too hard and need to back off.
I see it rather as the head thumps that abound on “NCIS.”
Could one of your brilliant children give me a brief history of NC? With the state symbols? And anything they find interesting about the state.
The worms crawl in
The worms crawl out
They crawl all over your nose and mouth...
The mystery novel I’m reading right now says that it’s not true about the worms. They don’t even play pinochle on your snout.
And yes, I will assign some work on NC history to the Offspring. Tom is doing the Revolutionary War in his history course, so he’ll have some information, and we’ll have them find more.
Tom and Pat are going de-messify my Spanish music pages as soon as their latest meal is cleaned up. I said I’d pay!
Interesting! Wish I could persuade our corporation to adopt this. But then, I’m not really in R&D anymore.
No pinocle? Oh my stars and body!
No pinochle on my snout unless I get dealt in.
How are you!
*HUG*
And how is your beautiful family doing? Any recent piccies?
Ah yes, classic case of control interface initialisation failure.
Somewhere in my digital domain I have pictures of her packing her little face with cake on her 1st Birthday. I'll locate a few of the best and get them up on Flickr.
The Eldest just celebrated 15 Years. He got one of these little "Flip" digital HD video cameras. It surprises me what you can get for under $150 these days.
Number One daughter is coming up on double digits this St. Pat's Day. Her present fascination is with owls, having read several of the "Guardians of Ga'Hoole" book series in which the principle characters are owls. I see that there's even a movie coming out later this year.
I thought it was stars and garters, at least among the pinochle-playing generation ...
Frank’s been asleep in his car seat since we got home from our music practice a little after 2:00, and I’ve been reading my book and listening to him breathe. They’re about to have the dramatic denoument.
I had DP get frozen pizza for supper, after I looked at the recipes I was going to make. Nobody but me would want them, and I’m not going to eat until after Weight Watchers!
LoM should be here to take me home soon.
I’ve known two or three girls or women named Lorelei in my life. And there’s the famous heroine of “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” Lorelei Lee!
Your wife doesn’t fancy being a man-killing supernatural beauty?
Apparently not.
*chuckle*
Her name is the shortened form “Lori”.
Your wife is from Eastern Europe, right? In the US, most girls named Lori probably had parents thinking, “Laura, but cutesier!”
I’d have liked to name a daughter Laura, but DP’s last name starts with an L.
Lori? Just Lori?
And so...? *\;-) The informal form of the Gaelic form of the oldest sionnsareen's firstname is identical to her maiden surname in Gaelic.
Y’all can call me Bob.
