I would hope that an immediate 'Cease & Desist' order has been requested; likewise they are looking at the complicity of their ISP/Network Provider in any on-going involvement of this spying. Unreal!

Where did they get the idea that government has the right to watch you with cameras? How many in here support such tyranny as Red Light Cameras? Yes it's the same principle and it needs to sink deeply into some peoples thick skulls just what precedents are. Your car like your home is YOUR Private Property. The same logic that says yes but you are on a public road which allows such I say this. By that logic if you allowed a computer given by the public school system in your home and hooked to the internet well then your home is no longer a private place either. Government is using a camera or TOOL as they love so much to call them on the information hiway. Where does it stop?

Why does a wealthy school district hand out laptops? I’d be willing to bet 90% of those students already have one or at least a computer in the home

Everyone involved in this program should be at bare minimum fired and barred from ever holding any job/position in the public sector.
I don’t agree with suing the district as you end up suing yourself HOWEVER the parents should have no problem finding a sleazy ambulance chaser to go after the individuals involved.
Never look a gift laptop in the camera.
What’s shocking is the fact that the Liberals running this school apparently no qualms at all about spying on their studets.
After looking at lots of posts, I must point out that these are allegations. Nobody has offered any proof that the school even has the capability to activate the cameras remortely and get images from them, let alone that they have been doing that.
If I’m wrong please point out where these are any more than allegations.
I understand that the seriousness of the charges dictates the response...where have I heard that before?

Just to kick the creepiness factor up a bit: unless the principal or VPs actually installed, maintained and monitored the cameras themselves they would have hired some IT guys to do it.
