In this atmosphere, Michael Steele should make another run at it. He was beaten by Ben Cardin. Cardin was elected to succeed Paul Sarbanes in the 2006 U.S. Senate election, defeating Republican challenger Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele by a margin of 54%-44%.
Steele has more support in Maryland than he appears to have as RNC chair.
Which would give him a graceful, face-saving way out of the RNC job he is so terribly bad at.
