There is a group of 5 unrelated children. Each of them has one parent who is a plumber, and another who is not.

Are they the children of a plumber? Or are they the children of plumbers?

Each is a child of a plumber however since each child has a parent that is not a plumber, it would be inaccurate to say that they are the children of Plumbers since one of their parents of each child is not a plumber.

They are however children of their parents.
