Over on the gun forums, THR, TFL, etc. there are lots of caliber wars threads. You can see all the old tired arguments on both sides such as;

“size doesn’t matter, it’s all about shot placement” (yeah, right)

“A hit with a .25 is better than a miss with a 45” (this assumes a 45 will always miss)

Those folks need to comment on this story.

Well, ya know, there's this thing called the Geneva Convention that kinda keeps you from shooting the other side with hollow points . . . let alone GIs, even those accused of rape. If I have to shoot ball ammo, though, I want .45 ACP or the old British .455 Webley, which has the added advantage of putting on a fireworks show - jets of flame and sparks out of the forcing cone and barrel. Looks you're shooting black powder on a damp day, even with smokeless.

HPs won't expand in something as pitifully underpowered as a .25 Auto. There has to be some velocity after all . . . it basically rolls out of the barrel at around 700 fps, and that's with a 50 grain bullet. Even soft lead wouldn't do much at that speed.

Yep, that's always been the problem with my .45 - even the Lightweight Commander. Hard to conceal. In the summer I used to carry a PPK in .380 Auto, but I think I'm going to go to one of the new very lightweight .45s.

But .22 is a whole lot better than nothing.

I bet nobody EVER said that about a .25! .22, maybe.

I can't think of anybody who defends the .25. It is really worse than nothing, because you think you're carrying a pistol.

It looks like in this case, though, it DID stop the attack. The recipient probably THOUGHT he had been killed.

I carried a Glock 26 every day during the 9 months I worked at Walmart. There are some questionable people working there, especially during the overnight shift. 8~)

I have several and it just depends on what is going on.

I tend to leave weapons in my truck and so I lean towards cheap Taurus revolvers of .38 or .357 variety.

For carry, I almost always have the little .22 just because it is literally impossible to detect. I’ve practiced with it in the range -— shooting in the holster. I hit center of mass, pure belly gun. That’s fine.

Depending on clothing worn, the primary weapon varies from a .40 GLOCK, to various Sig Sauer (.40, .380, 9MM).

You are right. The 25 is more anemic than the 22. The 22mag is pretty hot, however. And I guess anything is sometimes better than nothing.

LOL Your dad and mine would get along great.....still laughing...Being a retired policeman he had a cwp. He used a nice little colt corba, snub nose 38 special that fit under his arm pit....

One day I went with him to the cardiologist (being a nurse I would tell him what the doctor said after we left) Anyway the doctor ordered an EKG and dad had to strip off his shirt. I asked him if he wanted me to leave and said NO. He took off his shirt and cussed quietly, he had his halter and gun on...Told me to put them in my purse. Luck I had a large enough purse..

LOL!!!

That's like the time I was getting ready to leave work (young associate in a downtown law firm) and one of the partners strolled in my office to ask me a question just as I was shrugging on my Scorpion shoulder holster with the PPK in it.

He went "YIKES!" and started to back out the door, I said, "Nah, come on in, I'm decent."

He was a former Marine so I was on pretty solid ground.

.38+P is fine.

My daughter asked about that (one of the wife's friends carries a Taurus .38 revolver, and she loves it) . I told her that it's always better to round up :-P

It is only good for putting in an ear.

With all the nice, concealable 9mm out there today, there is no reason to carry anything less. Loaded with +P+ ammo you get all the stopping power (arguably) of a .45 with less noise, recoil, weight and more concealability even with an OWB holster under a t-shirt. Image Hosted by MyFiero.com

And it STILL probably wouldn't do a good job keeping out loud noises.

Ugh. I just had a flashback to rec.guns from the 1980’s.

Handgun round stopping power is a total myth.

For every one stop .45 ACP anecdote there are three .22 caliber one stop shots anecdotes to go with the perp who took 11 hits from a .45 and kept on going.

Everybody reacts differently to being shot.

There is no such thing as +P+, or P++, or ++p++. That’s all Guns & Ammo magazine marketing hype. There is no SAAMI spec for the plus plus p loads - just varying velocity.

Just ask those goats in Strasbourg.
