Is This The President’s Fake Letter to the Editor
Publius Forum ^ | 01/24/09 | Warner Todd Huston

The Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper happened upon a curious letter to the editor in support of President Obama that seems to have suddenly popped up in nearly 40 newspapers across the country all at once. Every letter claims to be written by an "Elle Light" and all claim to be from a resident local to the newspaper's audience -- different hometowns used in each case. All are identical whether they've been printed in the Washington Times or the Los Banos Enterprise, a small newspaper in California.

The letter jumps to the support of President Obama saying in part that President Obama never promised that "our problems would wash off in the morning."...

If you are on Facebook, post in your status “Who is Ellie Light?”

This is driving up interest in this story as witnessed at Google Trends.

Yes, obviously a phony letter generated by the WH to gin up support for this epic failure of a president!

It says the letters sent all over the country were signed "Elle Light" Guess what you get when you run that through an anagram generator?

"Legit, hell!"

Nice little joke on the voters, eh?

If these letters are being received via e-mail, the SMTP header will tell you the IP address of the server that sent it. That should be a start in tracking back to the sender.

Wonder if anyone at these newspapers is smart enough to figure that out?

Easy enough to find out. If anyone can get hold of an original letter, the manufacturer and serial number of the printer used to produce it can be found on the document in microprint. From there you simply find out who purchased the printer.

Don't you mean to ask if there is anyone at these newspapers WILLING to figure that out?

" I think its proof that all Libs think alike!"

I think that you may have inadvertently pointed something out here. These people really aren't liberals. They, in fact, have no political philosophy at all. They simply want something that others have worked for. I suppose that you could call that "Liberalism," but it really only an artifact of what Liberal philosophy begets.

Of course they are, but that is precisely why we will never know.

All of those newspapers knew about John Edwards' affair but would not print it. They will sweep this under the rug, after all, they put hin into office.

"Don't you mean to ask if there is anyone at these newspapers WILLING to figure that out?"

You're right. Certainly my hometown paper is a cesspool of mush-brained liberals, from the editor on down.

I'd cancel my subscription except I like the crossword puzzle and I need something to line the cat's litter box.

I dunno, but someone was running a pic yesterday that (aside from being a two-barf-bagger) seemed to pretty much clinch the Obama tie:

nder if anyone at these newspapers is smart enough to figure that out?

Odds are that they are complicit. There is no way that 60+ editors just HAPPENED to choose his/her letter.
