Oh. I’m sorry, it wasn’t terribly clear. Others are claiming that it has been reported that the child put his name on a sign on the cross. I sure can’t see in the pic of the drawing.

No need to be sorry...I was chagrined to see you being tut tutted like that and was offering support...you could not see something that was not there...nor could I...and, parenthetically, if it were there, it would still not change the horror of the story...and it is a horror...that a Christian boy be made uncomfortable by a search of any kind for his own meaning of Christ...letter J, name or any other “fact” notwithstanding...he was just a boy with an expression he wanted to make about Christ...at Christmas.
I think it one of the saddest commentaries about who we are become I have seen in recent years...
Bah! Stupid bloggers! The teacher is small potatoes. It's the Commander in Chief who needs to be fired, along with all who support what he stands for. You don't fix the system by firing the little people.
If you can do, do. If you can't do, teach. If you can't teach, administrate. If you can't administrate, run for office and hold your nose high.
I fully agree with you. It was thoroughly evil and ignorant to treat that boy that way. He hadn't done anything bad so there is no reason to try and psychoanalyze his artwork. THAT is sick.
You know at first I did not believe you so I tried to find the article I read previously. Could not find the AP article but did find a lot of others which seemed to cut off the sign. Finally I found one with the sign but the name had been rubbed out. Then I figured it out. They rubbed out the name because he’s a minor. I guess it took them a while do that though. The picture I saw clearly had the name on the sign and the article stated that the child had drawn himself on the cross.
Then they put his name in the article. That's jourbalists for you.
AHA! Here’s the photo:
But now that I look closer, I’m not sure it does say “Jake.” It certainly doesn’t say “Jesus” though.
It almost looks like ‘Jaler.’ Maybe it’s supposed to be the teacher. That’s how I looked at them anyway. Although I wouldn’t have dropped the ‘i’ because I was a superb speller. lol
Maybe it’s dangerous, but I assume that the original AP article was correct, and the kid’s name was on the sign. But now the AP the link I gave you has a caption which states that the father says that he drew a picture of Jesus, not of himself, so apparently the AP is now buying into the WND interpretation. The story keeps changing. Possibly the father figured out that it makes a better case if that was the story. I guess it’s impossible to know what was in this kid’s head when he drew it. In any event, the school’s response was pretty nutty. My first thought when I read the article was that the State of Massachusetts has sunk to a point where they don’t even know what Christianity is about. To require a kid to go to psychological counseling because of this is ridiculous, no matter what he had in mind.
