When I push the power button nothing happens at all.
When I push the power button nothing happens at all.
I thought I had posted them but I checked and I don’t see them.
Athalon 1.73 mgz-Syntax motherboard
1 Gig memory
80 gig HDD
Windows XP Home Edition
Sorry about the double posts. I have no idea how that is happening?
Can you give me the english translation?
Is it a lap-top? Because maybe your battery isn’t charge and you just need to recharge it =) It happens to me frequently.
Look for a light on the motherboard when the computer is plugged in and the power supply is turned on. If you see a light, it means that power is getting to the mobo. If you see no light, it might mean that the mobo has no light or it might mean that the mobo is not getting power.
In the other post, OC means overclocking, running a processor at higher than its rated speed to increase performance.
I will check back here later.
Example: "I have my 3.16 Wolfdale E0 OC-d to 4.9 with a 522 and 2.1 on the 9600."
Translation: The 3.16Ghz Intel Wolfdale CPU, manufacturing grade E0 (the best), is running at 4.9Ghz by setting the system board/CPU Front Side Bus to 522Mhz and settting the DDR2 9600 memory voltage to 2.1 volts.
That's my OC-d system's spec.s btw.
Cool, eh?
OUCH! whoa, whoa ...whoa!!!
That is an old system! Ok, ok, no problem, everybody remain calm, helping the FReeper out here....
Can you get your cousin or whoever built it to come over and work on it?
It could be a bad power supply or CPU seating. Both require experienced hardware users to troubleshoot/fix. You could try looking into the power supply and see if you can locate a fuse and check if it's blown. That'd be an easy fix. But they usually don't blow that often.
If it's not recoverable you could be looking at a few bills for a new (used) power supply, CPU and motherboard/RAM. Best bet is Craigslist from someone who's upgraded. You'll want to keep your hard drive and OS to keep all your stuff. Someone who's upgraded will be keeping their's so you should be in luck.
Best to upgrade. You might try posting a Wanted for Free add on Craigslist explaining your problem. Don't dismiss it easily, people do it and it works. There's lots of people with their old system laying around who'd be glad to help someone out. I'd mail you my old dual-Opteron server system but it has an 800W power supply requirement and is setup for RAID. Try the Craigslist freebies.
It does not turn on just a blank screen..
It's also symptomatic of the power supply auto protect circuitry detecting an abnormally high current draw. This can be caused by a short condition in any of the other devices (hard drive, CD/DVD drive, cooling fans, etc) that are being powered by the system power supply.
yes I won’t put to much money into this if it is not a power supply or something cheap. I will upgrade. Money goes to help our kids but now we are starting to keep our money because they are doing better. I figured I just need the tower and a CPU as I have 2 dvd burners and all I need to get it going. I need to at least double my 1.73.
Well how to try all the ideas I . Thanks all for your help..the jokes were great!!
Sounds like power supply. Easy cheap fix, fortunately.
Everyone who’s mentioning mobo could be onto something, but I’ve seen this behaviour more with a power supply issue.
I have a P4 1 gig mgz but while trying to fire it up as it sat for a while it got NTLDR is missing,so now its P3 with 655 mgs and a 30 gig HDD.stay tuned..
Check and make sure the sticks of RAM are properly seated. I’ve had similar problems when my RAM wasn’t in the slots quite right.
If it starts to come up and then shuts down the first place to look is the hard drive followed by the power supply. You might also try using the alternate boot to the installation CD and see if it will boot to the DOS prompt. If so it could be that the boot files are trashed and a reload of the OS might be necessary. This is why keeping some type of regular backup to an external source is important.
Could be power supply. If it’s a machine you really want to get running again, you might invest in a replacement power supply. Should run $25-50.

OMG - I don't have a clue what you're saying - same with the translation. No clue. None. Nada. Zip. Anyhow, thanks for trying... nice to know all of you are here - that “clueless” freepers have people to turn to when the machine won't turn on. I didn't fall for the “buy chocolate and a rose” but... considered it. At least I know what chocolate is.
