Video: Bart Stupak Says He'll Oppose ObamaCare With Abortion (Or Will He?)
Fox News ^ | 10/29/09 | Bart Stupak

He said that on Fox this morning. However, it contradicts what he said in this video. Draw your own conclusions. It looks like he'll oppose funding for abortions but in the end vote for it anyway. That's a shame.

So Rep. Joe Wilson was right; Obama lied about taxpayer funds not being used to fund abortions in his health care reform.

Wonder if ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN will apologize to Rep. Joe Wilson.

I hope Fox points out the inconsistency of 40 or 50 Democrats wanting to amend the House health care reform bill to forbid tax money from providing abortions and what Obama said.

Um, I believe Joe Wilson’s rude outburst was in relation to coverage for illegal aliens - not abortion. Wilson was correct on the merits but was very STUPID to attack the President at the podium during a Joint Session to Congress.

I am very suspicious of anything that Bart Stupak says compared to what he does. He actively worked on the presidential campaign of John Edwards. Edwards received a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood. Stupak is a leftie, make no mistake - how he represents the Upper Peninsula and northern mitten of Michigan is beyond me. It’s predominantly red counties with few people compared to the rest of Michigan, but lots of unemployment and welfare needs (guess I answered my own question). Stupak’s anti-abortion stance is likely a ploy to stay in office. In the end he will definitely vote for the Dems health care reform bill just like all the other baloney that they have put out there since Barry Soetoro became POTUS. Hey, you Michiganders - WAKE UP!!!!

ObamaCare IS an abortion! It is not only an abortion of the whole medical care system in this country as we have known it, it is a radical abortion of the whole US economy.

He said it after a series of lies. I don’t think Wilson was singling out the health care for illegals, but all the lies said in the speech:

Summary
President Obama’s prime-time address to Congress and the nation on health care prompted a Republican congressman to shout “you lie!” Did he? Here’s what we’ve found:

Obama was correct when he said his plan wouldn’t insure illegal immigrants; the House bill expressly forbids giving subsidies to those who are in the country illegally. Conservative critics complain that the bill lacks an enforcement mechanism, but that hardly makes the president a liar.
The president said “no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.” But the House bill would permit a “public option” to cover all abortions, and would also permit federal subsidies to be used to purchase private insurance that covers all abortions, a point that raises objections from anti-abortion groups. That’s true despite a technical ban on use of taxpayer dollars to pay for abortion coverage.
The president repeated his promise that his plan won’t add “one dime” to the federal deficit. But legislation offered so far would add hundreds of billions of dollars to the deficit over the next decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
Obama said his plan won’t “require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have.” It’s true that there’s no requirement, but experts say the legislation could induce employers to switch coverage for millions of workers.

First off, Joe WILSON WAS NOT RUDE. OBAMA WAS LYING THROUGH HIS TEETH AND most Americans want our politicians to tell the truth and be held acocuntable when they don’t, maybe not you. I guess you feel it ok for Bush to be heckled, but not Obama, eh? and you were wrong in claiming Wilson only cried out about illegal aliens. I am curious, how long have you been voting for liberals?

Per the Washingon Post:

His plan would not insure illegal immigrants, said Obama. “You lie!” rang out in the chamber.

Federal funds would not pay for abortions, Obama continued. “Not true!” came another yell from the same spot in the chamber. Vice President Biden frowned. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi glared.

Then there's this:

Stupak still unhappy with healthcare reform, abortion provision

By Tony Romm - 10/29/09 05:49 PM ET

The House Democrat leading the charge to alter abortion-related provisions in healthcare reform signaled Thursday his chamber's revised bill still does not go far enough.

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) has long threatened to block the House's healthcare effort unless his party's leadership permits a vote on an amendment that would prevent taxpayer dollars from funding abortions -- a provision, he noted on Thursday, that is still absent from Democrats' recently unveiled bill.

"[L]anguage in the bill still does not do enough to prevent federal funding from going to abortion services," Stupak said in a statement. "I am disappointed the Capps Amendment has remained intact in H.R. 3962, mandating abortion services for the first time in our nation’s history. I will continue to work with leadership to find satisfactory language on this issue."

All eyes have been on Stupak since he announced he had the support of 39 other lawmakers and would scuttle attempts to bring healthcare reform to the House floor unless the Democratic leadership addressed his concerns. Both sides have tried to negotiate that dilemma for some time now, but they have not been able to strike a deal. It is still unclear whether a vote on Stupak's amendment will even take place.

"I'm comfortable with where I'm at," Stupak said on Wednesday, adding Speaker Pelosi was likely angry with him. "This is who I am. It's reflective of my district. If it costs me my seat, so be it."

But Stupak has since tempered his tone, albeit slightly. In an op-ed he submitted to The Hill earlier today, he said the argument that he was trying to kill Democrats' healthcare reform "couldn't be further from the truth."

"This amendment is not about limiting choice when it comes to abortion services. There is nothing in the amendment that prevents those who choose to obtain abortion services from doing so," he said. "The Hyde language simply says taxpayer dollars should not be used to pay for those services.

"Just as the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) does not provide plans that cover abortion services, nor should the plans for individuals who enter into the public option or receive federal subsidies for healthcare cover abortions," he added. "They are free to purchase a supplemental plan or pay for these services with their own money should they so choose."
