I would move the discussion straight to the mods thread and ask them about using freepmail to welcome newbies. The rest of is can say hi and welcome as requested unless they are obvious trolls. The mod’s posts on that particular thread says it all. (Newbies vs trolls)

If you are going to FRWW in the future maybe it would be best to FRmail Newbies. We can call them out for being a NoOb or Troll and still others can offer encouragement to continue posting.
I know when I first started I did not get a hug and some of the people here are the very ones who challenged my in the beginning.
While others were encouraging.
I am a better poster for it and I think we have better posters because of it.
FRWW sounds great but, on this thread topic and the FRWW of the evening, it just didn't work out so well.
