The Power Of Palin: Oprah Bows To Sarah
Governor Palin 4 President ^

Posted on 10/22/2009 12:00:01 PM PDT by MaxCUA

I heard today that Sarah Palin has been invited to appear on Oprah Winfrey’s show.

After picking my jaw up from the ground, I ran back over my archives. During the campaign, Oprah had Obama on enough time for her to qualify as one of his campaign operatives. Sarah Palin didn’t even get a consideration much less an invitation. Perhaps it is because her forthcoming book, “Going Rogue” is a bestseller even before it hits the bookstores. This link tells the story. People cannot get it yet and it has blown every single Democrat book that could even be considered competition out of the water.

This seems like it could turn into a hit job. Big O needs to protect obama from being a one term president and Palin is looking like she is in position to take him out.

I could be wrong.

Oprah Pictures, Images and Photos

Sarah learned nothing from going on Katie Couric.

Looks to me like it’s Sarah bowing to Oprah. If her book is selling like hotcakes, why in the world would a Conservative go on the show of a known lefty liberal Obama ass kisser? She does not need the exposure to let people know who she is. She is already either loved or hated, what can Oprah add to that, more book sales? According to statistics, she doesn’t need that. If anything, she will be helping the fading Oprah show.

None of you get it.. Oprah was raked over the coals and lost viewers because she refused to have Palin on... her audience is exactly the audience she needs to win if she ever is to become a viable candidate in the future... this is a LIVE interview and she is not hamstrung by Schmitd and company in what she can say, the Couric AND Gibson interviews were taped and heavily edited to make her appear dumb.... the transcrips of the Gibson interview revealed they cut full mid sentence comments.... and she did not misspeak as many claimed on The Bush Doctrine.

Indeed, it could turn out to be a hit job. OTOH, it might be a hit job AND Sarah might just turn it right back on them!

There's nothing in the way of a hit job that would affect those of us who back her, so even if she were to bomb in the opinion of her non-supporters it wouldn't hurt her with us. Either way, it will be a great learning experience for her. I'd bet even money the learning is on the part of Oprah!

Another point is that even if it doesn't go well there's lots of time to overcome any damage.

IMHO, she will do just fine and liberal heads will be exploding all over liberal-land. Talk about a win-win!

millions of people, mainly women watch 0prah. Palin has always had trouble winning over women voters, mostly out of petty jealousy. However, 0prah’s ratings will double or triple for the day, and a significant percentage of those watching will find their way to their local bookstore on Nov 17th, and buy a copy of Going Rogue. The more people who read it, the better. Besides, if Palin is serious about being a candidate, she has to get into the MSM more, and draw a sharp contrast between her willingness to confront the MSM and 0bama’s hiding from FOX.

When Palin announced that she was resigning, she asked us to trust her, and I do, and we all should, her political instincts have so far been excellent.

You are making my point. Perhaps it is you that is not getting it. According to you, Sarah will be helping Oprah. That was my point on my post. I get it, do you?

Whether or not you think Palin did not expect or was unprepared for the hit-jobs and Courics last year, she will not let anything like that happen again.

I really like you point of: “her willingness to confront the MSM and Obama’s hiding from FOX”. I had not thought of that angle.

If Palin should become the Republican nominee, Oprah will go back to ignoring her. This is a typical liberal Media gambit — invite the conservative in when it doesn’t matter & can’t affect an election. That way the host can point to it and say, “see whe had her on, we aren’t being biased.”

To be fair, Obama was not on at all during the campaign. He was on back in 2006 when his book came out, and maybe in 2007. But certainly once he became the nominee and the general campaign started he wasn’t on at all. Neither was Biden. It wasn’t like Oprah was purposely stiffing her or anything.

Now she did have both Bush and Gore on during the campaign in 2000, but I think she felt because she had already endorsed and campaigned for Obama it really wouldn’t be fair to have him on or the opposition so she just had none of them on.

Oprah’s interview with Bush was also very friendly back in 2000 so it’s not like she’s some dem operative or anything. To my knowledge she’s never said anything personal or anything like that about Sarah Palin.

I think she’ll be fine.

Sarah learned nothing from going on Katie Couric.

I think she learned don't get prepped by a couple of turncoats working for John McCain.

As I said on another thread, I wouldn’t be surprized to see Oprah polite, fair and the two of them having a wonderful time....

Indeed, I would not be surprized to see Oprah end up in Sarah’s corner in the end.

Oprah got to where she is by many things, one of them being astute.....it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see Sarah is the real deal and that she walks with the Lord......At the risk of having heads explode here, I would not be surprized to find out that Oprah does also walk with the Lord, and when given the chance to choose between someone like Sarah, the real McCoy, and the bomb, well...let’s just wait and see.....

But imagine the impact of Oprah switching sides.......

Thank you!

The defeatist and “can’t do” attitude on this site is depressing.

I don’t know if you can say she’s always had trouble. I’d think she did pretty well among women voters in the AK governor race and the mayor race, although I haven’t seen data.

Even last yr, yes Obama won women overall, but a lot of that was heavily skewed by his 100% among black women and similarly huge number among hispanic women. I don’t think anyone expected her to do well among black women with Obama running. And the GOP as a whole collapsed among hispanics.

Among white women though, 53% voted for McCain/Palin(the same massive majority the media tells us Obama won overall by), which was a 10+ pt jump from where McCain was earlier in the summer, when he trailed among white women by double digits.

When you factor in that they got that 53% after the worst economic crisis and implosion in the lifetime of most of the women voting, after being outspent by 400 million dollars, after being written off and having no chance to win for the last 6 weeks of the campaign, Bush’s unpopularity and all the other negatives they faced, that’s pretty good.

If the economy had stayed as it was around Labor Day they probably would have gotten closer to 60% of white women.

In recent yrs, Bush got 55% of them in 2004(as a popular incumbent with a good economy, a popular war, flush with money and outspending Kerry by 40M and an awful opponent in Kerry), but only 49% in 2000. Even Clinton for all his vaunted appeal to soccer moms and all of that topped out at 48% of white women in 1996 and beat Dole by 5 pts. He got much less than 48% in 1992. Mondale/Ferraro got around 35% of white women in 1984. McCain/Palin beat Obama by 7 pts among white women in the worst possible year and scenario for the GOP in a generation.

When you consider that Obama undoubtedly cleaned up among white women in the 18-29 bracket and even the below 40 bracket, It’s likely that 60% or more of white women in Palin’s age bracket and above voted for her.

So all things considered I think she did ok among women. I could easily her around 60% or higher among white women in an election without all the negatives the ticket faced last yr. That would be enough to win. Also, you’d have to think that as President she’d get more votes than as VP, President is a much bigger deal.

Oh, I “get it”... if she is afraid or we are afraid of her wandering into the Lions-Den than she is no better than Obama, who is afraid to go on Fox News.....she cannot win with just the FR vote and it is the female vote she needs and doesn’t have.... Oprah is the perfect venue for the demographic she needs and if she cannot handle that then it’s a good thing she retired...
