Star-Ledger endorses independent Chris Daggett for N.J. governor
STAR-LEDGER ^ | 10 OCTOBER 2009 | STAR-LEDGER

Posted on 10/10/2009 8:16:08 PM PDT by Extremely Extreme Extremist

The Star-Ledger today endorses independent candidate Chris Daggett and recommends his election as the next governor of New Jersey.

The newspaper’s decision is less a rejection of Gov. Jon Corzine and Republican Chris Christie than a repudiation of the parties they represent, both of which have forfeited any claim to the trust and confidence of the people of New Jersey. They share responsibility for the state’s current plight.

Only by breaking the hold of the Democratic and Republican mandarins on the governor’s office and putting a rein on their power will the state have any hope for the kind of change needed to halt its downward economic, political and ethical spiral.

Here it comes folks. Voters are angry at both parties and may start voting in 3rd party candidates.

The problem is that the Demorats go into an election with 40% of the vote regardless of who they nominate. A third party candidate it seems to me hurts Republicans more. I can think of at least at dozen Republicans starting with Howard Taft in 1912 losing because of a third party candidate. I cannot think of many Demorats who have lost because of a third candidate.

As a lifelong follower of NJ politics, you are probably right. When the Star-Ledger endorses someone, I vote the opposite.

This is just a back door endorsement of Corzine. They know full well that all the dead people and their pets in North Jersey already have their votes registered in the voting machines for Corzine. It doesn’t matter who the rest of the state votes for. Will only take votes away from Christy ensuring a Corzine win.

So the children want the Liberal Democrat to win.

3rd Party candidates are are part of the Liberal Democrat
machine.

3rd parties always make it possible for the Liberal Democrats to win.

Any one on FR who supports 3rd parties are comforted in the
fact, they get their Liberal Democrat without voting directly for him.

So the fact that Christie is running an incoherent campaign doesn’t mean anything to you guys?

Excuse me, but why don't you realize that voters are exasperated at both parties, not just the Democrats. The way I see it, Christie is running a horrible campaign and has squandered most of his lead already. He's not going to win by simply being the anti-Corzine.

I'm not a fan of 3rd party movements but in a case like NJ (and the rest of the Northeast) there's really nothing to lose. I still remember how the NJ GOP threw Schundler under the bus in 2002 who would have made a fine conservative Republican IMO.

The FReepers who have an obsessed hatred for anything
less than 100% conservative will take a 100% Liberal Democrat.

Any these libertarian loons wonder why they are considered
part of the Liberal establishment through the side door.

My friends and relatives in New Jersey don’t agree with you.
They do not want Corzine or any 3rd party loon helping him to win.

"3rd Party candidates are are part of the Liberal Democrat machine."

well, it works so well for them....Freaking Frankin in Minn is but the latest proof of the idiocy of voting third party....

people want third party?...vote in your local elections that way, but don't for God's sake pretend your some holier than thou by voting for third party....Perot worked for Clinton IMO....both times....and now we get this crap from Jersey..

while I am ranting, lately Beck and Dave Ramsey have been spouting off about the Pubs as bad as the rats.....

NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS HAVE THE PUBS DONE WHAT THE RATS HAVE DONE IN DESTROYING THIS COUNTRY...

don't bother complaining then....don't come on FR and complain about the repression of speech and press, increased monster taxes, govt run healthcare, cap and trade and our military being offered up as a sacrifice in the Middle East...

if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem....

DU looking for a few good libertarians to elect them...

Look, I'm a conservative-libertarian Republican. I want the Republican Party to start espousing some libertarian ideas so those "3rd party loons" won't be a factor in the general election. Why is this so hard for you and the GOP to understand?

It has nothing to do with "purity," or de-facto support for the Democrat....but both the NJ GOP and the Democrats have wrecked NJ to Detroit status. What do you think voters are going to do? Keep voting Republican?

Christie is not getting the job done or else Daggett would be a non-factor. Daggett is polling over 10%. Christie should be wiping the floor with Corzine and he is not because he is not talking about the hard issues that are facing NJ.

I can think of one. Al Gore. 3rd parties help the GOP, too.
