Sarah Palin’s Speech in Asia

Quite a contrast with the rogues gallery on display at the United Nations!

While liars, terrorists and Jew hating psychopaths (you figure out who was who) spoke from the platform of the United Nations on Wednesday, Sarah Palin was in Hong Kong delivering a long awaited speech to Asian investors. She surprised even her critics, including the New York Times, which reported:

A number of people who heard the speech in a packed hotel ballroom, which was closed to the media, said Mrs. Palin spoke from notes for 90 minutes and that she was articulate, well-prepared and even compelling.

Though the event was closed to the media, former Governor Palin posted an extensive excerpt on her Facebook page:

SARAH PALIN: So far, I’ve given you the view from Main Street, USA. But now I’d like to share with you how a Common Sense Conservative sees the world at large. Later this year, we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall – an event that changed not just Europe but the entire world. In a matter of months, millions of people in formerly captive nations were freed to pursue their individual and national ambitions.

The competition that defined the post World War II era was suddenly over. What was once called “the free world” had so much to celebrate – the peaceful end to a great power rivalry and the liberation of so many from tyranny’s grip.

Some, you could say, took the celebration too far. Many spoke of a “peace dividend,” of the need to focus on domestic issues and spend less time, attention and money on endeavors overseas. Many saw a peaceful future, where globalization would break down borders and lead to greater global prosperity. Some argued that state sovereignty would fade – like that was a good thing? – that new non-governmental actors and old international institutions would become dominant in the new world order.

As we all know, that did not happen. Unfortunately, there was no shortage of warning signs that the end of the Cold War did not mean the end of history or the end of conflict. In Europe, the breakup of Yugoslavia resulted in brutal wars in the Balkans. In the Middle East, a war was waged to reverse Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait. North Korea’s nuclear program nearly led to military conflict. In Africa, U.S. embassies were bombed by a group called al Qaeda.

Two weeks ago, America commemorated the 8th anniversary of the savagery of September 11, 2001. The vicious terrorist attacks of that day made clear that what happened in lands far distant from American shores directly affect our security. We came to learn, if we did not know before, that there were violent fanatics who sought not just to kill innocents, but to end our way of life. Their attacks have not been limited to the United States.

~~~
During the election campaign in the U.S. last year, you might have noticed we had some differences over Iraq. John McCain and I believed in the strength of the surge strategy – because of its success, Iraq is no longer the central front in the war on terrorism. Afghanistan is. Afghanistan is where the 9/11 attacks were planned and if we are not successful in Afghanistan, al Qaeda will once again find safe haven there. As a candidate and in office, President Obama called Afghanistan the “necessary war” and pledged to provide the resources needed to prevail. However, prominent voices in the Democratic Party are opposing the additional U.S. ground forces that are clearly needed.
Dang. That is a pretty amazing speech. Downright Churchillian; insightful, direct and spot on. Amazing that we elected “the speechmaker” appeaser while voters rejected this Churchill in the making.
Sarah is smarter and considerably more articulate than Obama, but most of all, she is principled, patriotic and honest, qualities a scumbag like Obama will never have.
It was the best speech I’ve read from her yet, though ever since ‘compassionate’ I get concerned when people put modifiers in front of Conservative.
Palin does not make the same mistake twice. She may have entered the 2008 race too reliant on McCain’s people, their opinions, and their management, but she is her 100% own person now.
I was thinking the same thing. There’s much much more to Palin than the cartoon stereotype that the MSM and the Olbermann types would like you believe. She is very Churchillian and BO is the Nevil Chamberlain of our time. This is 1937, people, and the wolf is at our doorstep.
The only other speech I saw of any length was her RNC speech, which was too much about people (McCain, Obama,etc) and not enough about ideas (arguably a useful role for a VP candidate). This was finally a speech of substance.
Do you think McCain’s handlers would possibly have allowed her to make this speech then?
But I agree with you, ideas are what need to be argued, and she’s been focused on that since stepping down as guv.
Probably not, hence my allowance for her being in the role of VP. I’m glad to see her unencumbered by the McCain campaign.
Yes. Her speech has really raised my hopes for her book too. I hope that is idea-focused rather than personality focus, and after yesterday I’m hopeful it will be.
I prefer Sarah at this point, but fwiw, the enemy isn't Romney, it's Obambi.
Let's wait till things shake out before going to war amongst ourselves. We need to kick the dems out in 2010, then flush Bambi down the toilet two years later. Both elections are what we should point to and unite around, otherwise we're gonna be in it deep.
Good words. They’re words that any true GOPer would have said. George Bush, Sr. said those words about the Cold War. John McCain would say the exact same thing about Afghanistan today. Mitt Romney discussed Asia during the campaign.
To me, experience still has me with Romney — hands down — no comparison. Mr. Romney discussed the dire economic condition coming during the campaign. Mitt Romney is a venture capitalist — getting capital for businesses — the economy does not run on its own. And, in order to do that, Mitt Romney had to sell himself and Bain Capital. I want someone with a great deal of business/capitalist experience in the White House to steer the financial future of this country, so that every American who is willing to work for a better future has the best opportunity possible.
I like Mitt Romney for President and Sarah Palin for Vice President.
