The thought had occured to me. As I recall Carter, for whom Brez was Sec. of State, was not particularly friendly toward Israel. The deal Carter struck with Begin and Sadat largely favored Egypt and has been the template for subsequent so-called peace initiatives. To wit: Give up land for some kind of half baked security agreement with the Arab, Irani and Egyption states. Oh yes, in all these agreements Israels opponents were to formally recognize Israel as legitimate country.
The PLO, or whatever name it now calls itself, has never publicly accepted the State of Israel. And it’s charter still calls for the destruction of same. Iran speaks for itself. Egypt, however, has been a relatively good neighbor to Israel. But the Palestinians manage to make a lot of mischief from Israel’s border with Egypt.
