Assimilation seemed feasible because there is very little difference theologically between Reform Judaism and liberal Christianity, at least as regards Christ and the Holy Scriptures. Taking one step further leads Jews into liberalism, which regards religion as passe’. That does not, of course, take care of social prejudice based on class and family culture, so anti-Judaism is superseded by antisemitism where even secular Jews are treated as members of a hated ethnic group.

Exactly! And that is the one of the big follies of Reform Judaism. As we see in Germany, it didnt matter that Germany was the seat of Reform thought. It didnt matter that culturally the Jews were the same as their German counter parts. If you were of Jewish ancestry...you went to the ovens.
