American military personnel commonly salute the flags of other nations during national anthems and other ceremonies when foreign colors are presented.

This is an international courtesy that is extended by virtually every nation to every other nation. Just as American officers salute the officers of foreign nations, and vice versa.

The author's over-the-top histronics in this article do not serve much of a purpose.
