TVNewser has learned CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein sent an email to a handful of “Lou Dobbs Tonight” staffers last night regarding the coverage of the so-called birthers and the validity of Pres. Obama’s birth in the U.S.

In part, Klein writes, “It seems this story is dead- because anyone who still is not convinced doesn’t really have a legitimate beef.” Klein asked CNN researchers to dig into the question of why Obama couldn’t produce the original birth certificate. The researchers contacted the Hawaii Health Dept. and confirmed that paper documents were discarded in 2001 when the department went paperless. That reportedly includes Pres. Obama’s original birth certificate.

October 2008, Hawaiian officials reported that they had personally verified the existence of Barack Obama’s original birth certificate: State officials say there’s no doubt Barack Obama was born in Hawaii.

Health Department Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino says she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have personally verified that the health department holds Obama’s original birth certificate.

Fukino says that no state official, including Gov. Linda Lingle, ever instructed that Obama’s certificate be handled differently from any other. She says state law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest in it.

An image file is most likely stored on microfiche for space constraint reasons. An EMP would not destroy data stored on any medium like CD, microfiche, cassette tape, magnetic tape, 8-track, etc. There also have to be back-up files in the event the current media is destroyed or damaged on a mainframe or client server type computer system especially if they are official government records.

Why didn’t they say last year, “Although the original birth certificate was destroyed in 2001, we have verified the original image file is on record in accordance with... blah blah blah.”

I mean people wanted the seal, the dr. signature..., it’s been pretty clear what people want to see.

This was in 1996 and was required by the passport office. I had to send it along with photos, form and check to the Mellon Bank in New York, I think. I remember they distinctly told me it could not be a copy and had to be embossed (that's the word).

Jon, then how in the HELL do you know that his mother, Ann Dunham, didn't file for a Certificate of Late Birth from someplace other than Hawaii?!

"Address of Residence" (like might be submitted to the state via mail) DOES NOT mean "Address of Birth", nor does "Address of Residence" denote "State or Nation of birth"!

     [§338-17.8]  Certificates for children born out of State.  (a)  Upon application of an adult
or the legal parents of a minor child, the director of health shall issue a birth certificate for such
adult or minor, provided that proof has been submitted to the director of health that the legal
parents of such individual while living without the Territory or State of Hawaii had declared
the Territory or State of Hawaii as their legal residence for at least one year immediately
preceding the birth or adoption of such child.

Jon, and furthermore -- the newspaper ad means NOTHING more than 6085 Kalanianaole was filed as the "Address of Residency" -- it is NOT a place of birth!

Well, you should know that this is the way government officials talk..., no... really. They’re not going to say things like a college professor in a class where you learn about digital formats and paper copies as in some “archival class”...

They’re going to put it in general terms, for the “lowest common denominator” (of language and for the population at large, maybe at sixth-grade level) and be general and somewhat vague...., without being too vague for the subject at hand. They do that so that they have plenty of “weasel room” when needed... :-)

But, if you look at the words in that press release from the State of Hawaii, you can see that they’ve used wording and language that would leave this wide open so that they could not be accused of lying. There’s nothing in there that you can accuse them of lying about, even if they didn’t say, specifically, that they destroyed a “paper original” of the birth certificate.

Take a look at their carefully crafted words... :-)

Both used the same term, one would think they would mean the same thing, too? Eh?

Note the State of Hawaii does not say he was born in Hawaii in this press release they just confirm an original

So call BS on CNN...release a copy of the original Obama... whats the big deal

— has “personally seen” — seen what? a computer screen?

— “original birth certificate on record” — well yeah, it’s “on record” inside a computer...

— “in accordance with state policies and procedures” — those policies which converted it over to digital and also discarded the paper... yeah, those policies... :-)
