"If he walked away from his post, and from his buddies in wartime, I don't care how hard it sounds, as far as I'm concerned, the Taliban can save us a lot of legal hassles and a lot of legal bills".......It was even a little too much for Foxnews Anchor Julie Banderas...

Where the heck are you folks coming from. You’re calling this young man a traitor and you have NO basis for that. Shame on you.
Regardless of how he was captured he is an American. If the Taliban kill him it will be a win for him and will result in the deaths of many more.
As has been posted this LT. Col (retired) is completely off base saying this stuff in a public forum.
Yup. Bring him home and hand him off to the Courts Martial if necessary. But never leave one of our own to the animals intentionally.
I agree with Lt. Col. Peters, if any American soldier is captured while abandoning his post during wartime, we shouldn’t take him back.
Before I went off to Iraq, my father told me that I was not to bring shame upon my country, my unit or my family. That I should never to be taken alive.
He also told me that when he flew any combat missions he considered himself a dead man, so until I came home I was consider myself a dead man.
And, supposedly left his weapon and other items at the Post.
“ALL the reports said he WALKED AWAY WITHOUT HIS GUN! Going by the news reports!”
Yeah we know how reliable the news reports are. The ones I read didn’t say he deserted his post. They said he was enticed away by 3 locals. perhaps he was invited to dinner and had a moment of stupid like we all did at his age.
Calling the kid a traitor based on the available information is shameful.
Well if he went native, he went native........that said, Bring him home so we can sort it out and either way, we need to debrief him, lots of information in that boys head.
Maybe he went AWOL. Maybe not. If true, I’d tend to belive he is a psychological case which shines a whole new light on the matter. Every effort should be undertaken to free him and bring him home.
Colonel Ralph Peters retired in 1998, I think he is getting senile.
Julie?
After he is rescued, some of you can enjoy his court martial.
Just Who The F*** is LtC Ralph Peters, and why should anyone consider a word this weasel has to say?
Well, I guess I suspend judgment on this. I have the greatest respect for Ralph Peters, and I’m not going to be in a hurry to condemn him, either.
Here’s an extract from the story linked on Drudge:
Neighbors are abiding by the family’s wishes not to comment on the record about Bergdahl’s capture, but described the 23-year-old as an “adventurous” soul who was educated at home, danced ballet and took part in a sport fencing club, the Sun Valley Swords.
One of the directors of the Sun Valley Ballet School in Ketchum said Bergdahl performed with the group for four or five years until about 2008.
“He’s athletic,” Jill Brennan said. “He just had a knack for it. He’s a wonderful young man.”
In the 28-minute video, Bergdahl said he was “scared I won’t be able to go home.” He said he was lagging behind a patrol when he was captured, which conflicts with earlier military accounts that indicated he walked off the base with three Afghans.
If he deserted the US Military and went over to the enemy, it’s basically the same as Barack Hussein Obama.
Assuming Omoslem ever WAS American, now that Omoslem has gone over to the enemy, how do we handle that?
Our Traitor In Chief opens up a whole can of worms as he betrays the USA on a daily basis.
I used to have some sympathy for the fool democrats, but now I just view them as the enemy.
"If he deserted" you say. How about "if he was captured"?
How about withholding judgement until this American son is rescued?
How about not making this about frikkin BHO somehow?
I'll say it again: The only damn FACT we have is that he is in enemy hands and we need to get him back.
You people are unbelievable.
Peters? Isn’t that an appropriate name:
Peters Head with two ears.
I watched the entire interview with Ralph Peters - he repeatedly uses the “if” qualifier. In addition, I’ve been following Col Peters for years and never fail to read his articles in the New York Post. He is without doubt one of the best strategists in the US today.
Here’s the scenario: an American soldier vanishes from his platoon in a war zone. “IF” he deserted his platoon - he is a traitor, plain and simple. His desertion jeopardizes the lives of his unit. After several days, he appears to be captured by the enemy in a propaganda video, where he is repeatedly lying about his unit and the circumstance of his disappearance.
What to do? Col Peters was very clear, if, if, IF he deserted and went over to the enemy - he’s a traitor. However, if the investigation shows he didn’t desert, then and only then can we say he’s not.
Besides, since when does a captured soldier automatically become a “hero”? It has always bugged me that so many are quick to call some people “heroes” when all they’ve done is get captured by the enemy.
I think he said “Inshallah”
He’s a deserter.
I never said that the guy deserted. I simply was saying what was supposedly being reported.
I know a lot of people who train for years in karate...yet freeze up during a real fight. He’s a boy.
